Hey, guys. Here's my first post to the forum. I've been watching for a while, and I dig what I see, so I decided to contribute. Andrew and Jason... keep up the good work with the site!

for those who dont know...good ole adam here is another guy who studied with andrew, myself, puddnwood, james and sd barber while at ringling. He is now a successful artist in the games industry and currently showcases his skills at BLIZZARD. He is one hell of an animator...not too damn bad with a wacom either...as you can see.

check his website out if you get a chance.

glad to see you post adam...hows blizz?

Thanks for making it clear that I suck. Just kiddin'. You definately set a lofty level aspiration or two. I looked at your site also. Very impressive demo reel. I'm in awe.

Great stuff! Loved the demo reel especially. :chug: Nice to see work from a Blizzard artist. I eat those games up :D

Quick question..
How heavy were the models you used?

Thanks for the introduction, Jason. How are things going with you? Blizzard is totally rockin', and World of Warcraft is gonna knock people on their asses. Can't wait.

Brads3d, thanks for the kind words. That was an awesome compliment.

Evil Dan, thank you also. Not sure what you mean by your question though, could you be more specific?

Fozzybar, thanks! I already feel very welcome here. I should have lots of stuff to post in the future.

I just wanted to know if the models you used for your animations were low-res or high-res. The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to put some sort of gaming demo-reel to go along with my portfolio. If i can get by with low poly models it would save some time :)

I forgot to post this before, but I think you all will really enjoy it. It's a flash process slider so you can see how this painting came to be. CHECK IT OUT. (http://www.burncomics.com/post/archer/future/process/)

Evil_Dan - I'm assuming you mean the models in my reel. They range between 1 and 5 thousand polygons. I think 5000 is really heavy and it doesn't show in a lot of them (I didn't model anything but the robot and the gorilla). If you are putting stuff together, I'd say shoot for 1000-2000. You can really do a lot with that, and it will impress employers a lot more if you can make good art with fewer resources.

Loga4 - thanks, glad you like it. There is definitely more to come.

Thank you Adam. Lovely piece/site/slider trick :)
I hope you wouldn't mind if i try to post a small crit.
I'm just a noob so please take this crit more like a question for myself. I don't know what is right and wrong yet.
So.. i thought that the piece would need more contrast (since is a cartoonish work) and also that the feets need more attention. Her right feet (in the lower part) needs to go back a little (into the grey) to make the knee pop some more. I've also enhanced the shadow on her left one - like she needed more contact with the ground (sort of).
I might be terrible wrong and I certenly hope you don't mind i've used your pic.
I'm at the job right now so i've only used a mouse = excuse the rough modif. - but is only to make a point - even if it is a stupid one.

can somebody blow my brains... about now?
everybody is so polite not telling me that i suck, i feel like shit.
I try to crit and make a fool out of myself and you don't even want to throw me a hand: "get up boy.. you're out of your league and pretty pathetic". No... you ignore me :nopity:

I know it was a minor thing.. or maybe a "taste matter" but... sometimes a small thing can clear up the view. I just wanted to know if the stuff i think i know is right or wrong.
For now.. i'll presume there is not such a thing. And.. thanks for the feedback!

Frustrated.Oblio

P.S. - Sorry Adam.. this is no way to welcome you. I'll make it back to you.

Oblio- Well, you're trying to get an opinion about you on someone else's work that you modified. I believe I've seen your stuff in the forums and was impressed.

blankslatejoe - Glad you like the process slider. Hopefully in the future, everyone will be able to make one.

Oblio - I definitely consider all my work 'in progress'. I appreciate your criticism, and I welcome anyone else to crit my work. Anyone who is offended by criticism is too attached to their work. You pointed out a few good things to work on, and since completing this piece, I see a few things myself that I'd like to fix. Maybe in a few days I'll add an update. As for your 2nd post, don't sweat it. Regardless of your skill level, you have something to add. Everyone has a different perspective and each is a valid point of view. So don't be so hard on yourself, man! :)

morphgfx - thanks, man!

egerie - Glad you like the animation. I can't wait to put stuff from Blizzard on there.

Android - Thanks, Andrew. I definitely miss Austin and all you guys a lot. I think I'm gonna visit this summer, maybe around the week of the 4th, so you better be there! I wish I hadn't had to leave austin, but I couldn't pass Blizzard up. I'm really loving it out here, even more than I thought I would. You did a really great job with metroid, and you did the series justice, which is a very hard thing to do. It's a near-flawless game, and I know all those crazy hours weren't in vain. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to play the next game Retro makes (though I have to finish Metroid on hard first).

Anyway, that's enough rambling from me for now. :)

Thanks for your input, Spawnie. I've decided to defintely revisit this one when I get the time. Not only the fix some proportions, but I want to add a little more color variation to separate the lights and darks more.

If anyone else has anything to add, I'm all ears.

Really amazing. Pics like yours make me feel complex of inferiority :( . I'd always love Blizzard's artistic work, they always choose some of the best artists to their games, and you aren't a exception. Keep posting pics like this, please.
