Mine are...

That electronic stuff puts me in a coma.

I draw with the stereo up, blasting Soulfly, Filter, rage against the machine, or sometimes Tantric.

I've recently rediscovered "Toadies", good stuff.

Back when I used to do "real" painting like oils and such,,,

I'd listen to Phantom of the Opera.....

but now it depands on my mood and what I am drawing

I find that anything without words allows my left brain to shutdown and my right brain take over, giving that feeling of time flying by. Whether it be an instrumental from Miles Davis, some classical piece from Mozart, Bach, et al, or some driving trance thing that just goes... so long as it sounds good. Lyrics tend to keep my left brain paying attention.

most time, it's just the usual mix of:

electronica
-feindflug
-front 242
-suicide commando
-wumpscut
...

gothic
-therion
-lacrimosa
-the sins of thy beloved
...

neofolk
-von thronstahl
-blood axis
-belborn
-mila mar
...

orchestral
-nobuo uematsu stuff
-hans zimmer stuff
-harry gregson-williams stuff
mainly epic movie or good game soundtracks

classic
-wagner
-chopin
-berlioz
...

and a lil bit of metal (the real thing, not that disgusting unheavy new "metal" thing...)
-hypocrisy
-limbonic art
-old iron maiden

pretty much mixed styles but it's funny to see how different styles of music change the way of working.

While modeling it's got to be Metal, Industrial, stuff.
drawing fantasy stuff: soundtracks, because they are filled with moody stuff and most don't have lyrics so I can base my own ideas from the music. LOTR is by far the best.

depends on my mood....i usually listen to motion picture scores...my favorites are

Black Hawk Down
Lord of the Rings
Perfect Strom

also i really like symphonic led zeppelin...great instrumental stuff!

so its either that or i like to listen to:
Coldplay
Counting Crows
Pat mcgee band
pink floyd

as much as i love heavy music, it gets me goin too much and i end up moving too quickly and my drawing and paintings look muddy and messy

Anybody know a band named "Kings X"...I listen to them all the time...and POD and some incubus. I usually have a mix going. That's funny zipp that you can't listen to heavy music...I find that I can't listen to soft music. I've always been that way though...easier to fall asleep to metal than to a symphony. I'm weird like that.

Anything by Miles Davis, lately "Corrado" from the Complete Bitches Brew Sessions. Frank Sinatra, especially "It was a very good year". Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters" album

MCM - you listen to King's X? Are they still alive? It must have been ages since they've published their songs.

As for my taste, I like to listen to film sound tracks (yes, LOTR and TTT, of course) like John Williams' stuff or SF soundtracks. I'm also a fan of classics, esp. Beethoven and Mozart. And I like to listen any time to my favourite band Jethro Tull. Runrig is great stuff, as is Clannad and Enya. From time to time Meat Loaf and Nazareth. R.E.M., Guns'n'Roses and Crash Test Dummies. Yeah, that's it mainly. Irish and Scottish Folk Stuff, too.

I keep hearing about the soundtracks for LOTR. I'll have to pick them up. Are they both available already? Is there a particular one to look for? Or is it just one for each movie?

Jester: TULL?! Hehe... I love Tull. You don't hear much from their fans these days. My favorite song from Ian: Only Solitaire

I love listening to chevelle or finger eleven or finch while doing anything "artistic"..they really bring out my emotions where I need em =)

Blind - I can't believe it, another Tull fan? Just great! My favourites are songs like Bourree, Songs from the wood, Budapest... hmmm, difficult to decide which I like most, since there are only very few I don't like. (I just recently bought a ticket for a concert on 30th June - looking forward to it!!!)

Yes, both LOTR soundtracks are available (separately). The first is better than the second IMO, probably because I think the music plays a more important part in the first than in the second part. At least the musical motives are much clearer in the first.

I love music of all kinds which makes it so damn hard not to listen to it while i work ! its hard at first but after a while if your lucky enough to be in complete silence you find that its very easy to think and work better at least in my case though even i cheat and listen to it once in a while

Good ol' rock chick? Yeah (I like this!) :)

I always used to listen to music which was popular at least a generation earlier than me. So Uriah Heep is cool, too. Jimi Hendrix is a problem - he was definitely a genius, but sometimes a genius can drive you mad! ;)

I also like Janis Joplin (she would have been 60 just lately - can you imagine?) and the Beatles as well as the Stones... Eric Clapton... :D

Tom Waits is GREAT for putting me in the creative state.
his music is so rich with feeling and character that it inspires the same in my artwork.

"Secret Chiefs 3" is also great for inspirado.
