Hello, here's a quick introduction to myself, please find some images for you all to see, now that I will be teaching at the Conceptart.org San Francisco Workshop this January. This Piece is something of a Theatrical stage and alterpiece. It is titled "AT MOTHER", it measures 110 x 156 x 42 inches. It is formed in oil paint, black light paint, black lights, wood and canvas and framed in welded steel.

welcome steven...
I fixed the image issue for you. Thanks for posting these. They are truly beautiful images.
Where are these paintings located?
How long does something like this (multiple figures) take you to execute?

I'll second that holy shit. Your work is amazing it look sweet.
I love how you presented it as well.
The only thing i dislike is that melted metal on around the edges of the painting. It looks a bit globby or something, perhaps if it where more straight and fromed with dings scrapes and cuts in it.....would look better???
Oh yeah HOLYSHIT

if it was clean and straight...industrial looking...then it wouldnt have the feel of old bones....see the top?
symbolism is the artists choice...it is not always about how great something will look. It is about how appropriate the idea is.

yeah the edge play is amazing too...they look like they are in the space behind the middle window. the girl on the far right sits perfectly in space...and is wonderfully done. Fantastic costume design as well.

Mr. Assael,
You are truly one of the most inspirational contemporary artists. Seeing you, Michael Hussar, and fellow FORUM artist Kevin Llewellyn on this list was enough to make me overcome any question of coming to this workshop. It will certainly be an honor to stand behind you and watch you place those brushstrokes. I hope I get to chat with you while you're there.
Also, if you could post any of your drawings or more of the Club Kids painting series, I think the forums would adore you forever.

Hi Steven
I look forward to meeting you in person in SF.
these two paintings really took my breath away.
its so refreshing seeing an artist with such a rich knowledge of traditional skills pushing image content and experimenting untraditional with mediums like black light paint.
your work expands our minds.
thank you

Those are incredibly beautiful. And I'll be damned if that isn't Venus in the yellow UV reactive extensions. That was something of a shock.

Ha ha Killing people,
Whats disturbing yet beautiful about Steve's work is that when you see it in person it goes beyond photo-realism and transcends to the natural world, the form is incredibly well done, his color understanding is based on what is there in front of him and around us all in the natural world. Look at the translucency of the guys hands on the far right end of the first image..incredible! and to think this only a jpg repro.

Simply amazing. Thank you for doing the workshop Mr.Assael.
I've been a fan for about a year, when I first saw your work in Atlanta.
For everyone else: These images do NO justice to just how breath-taking this work is in person. Everyone going to SF is in for a rare treat.

I cant agree with you more man.
I saw the painting of the obese woman with the doll and every bit of art theory I had ever learned was there and then some...but at the same time it was brutally honest visually. The light and color passages across the flash and the color fall off as the light moved down the figure and forms made the image sparkle with life.
I also saw two beautiful head paintings on what looked to be a bookend. I was at the odd nerdrum show in LA at the forum gallery and as much as I respect nerdrum steve's paintings made odd look like he was painting with mud. They are breathtaking in person. simply breathtaking.
It is an honor to have one of the 21st centuries great masters among us. It truly is.
Thank you Steven.

Wow. But help me here....are those paintings of photos? Please don't tell me he painted those scenes from his mind. I love the way it's displayed, the colors, ..just not to sure what the piece is about. Either way, very impressive.

It is my understanding that Steven paints from life...but considering his skillset I am sure he could pull it off from photos as well.

Steve Usually paints from life with his fine art work and if I recall may use photos once in awhile, you guys will be able to pick his brain at the workshop with those questions and more. I do know from his illustration stuff he works from photos but the knowledge he has attained from working from life makes his illustrations better then his photo refrence. I'f I seem like I'm replying to some of the questions, Steve was one of my teachers at SVA in NY and also helped me get my first big break in the book cover field, something I'm very grateful for.
I think this workshop will be a wake up call for all of us including myself who have either forgotten or ignored the importance of working from life.
