Hi. Sorry if the pic takes a while to load. It's pretty big since I didn't want to lose detail.
This is my entry in the CGTalk Lord of the Rings Challenge this month. The rules are that you're supposed to design a race or creature for Middle-Earth that wasn't in the books or movies already.
So, basically this is a huge beast that the Witch King rode a looong time ago in a made-up storyline. Thanks people.

badass sir. i still don't like the rust background around his back, not sure why. I think t's because the brush strokes look kinda lame. Try some from http://www.misprintedtype.com/ in the "airbag" section

well, I agree with davi, that is bad ass! Hhmmm, well, I dont mind the rust color on the bg, so much, but perhaps it should be more evident throughout the backdrop. Anyway, awesome creature design and artistic execution, well done :)

You are the best creature designer I've ever seen!

I can't wait to see the rest of your season monsters!

Good luck on the contest.

And the winner is... Brasshorsekiller. Really nice, man. I can picture this beast being in Middle Earth. The only thing I'm not fond of is the tentacles... I've seen better ones from you. But still friggin amazing!

hey aaron!

don't get me wrong... i do admire your technical level and cleanness of things and all that. the first monsters you did were killer, too but lately, they seem to be overkill to me.
it's just like packed so full with monstrous things and elements that you don't get a direct hook on it.
remember the three monsters from star wars ep2? the horned one, the cat-on-crack one and the praying mantis one.
they all have a more or less direct wire to something familiar or to a concept you can grasp and remember quickly (like e.g. 'the' alien, the old godzilla, pikachu... you name it)
inmidst of a lot of monsters like that, you can also put one or two overload creatures that stand out because of their overloadedness.

hope that made sense... ;)

Yet another brasshorsekiller-creature...i would recognize one of your creatures under 1000...it's an accolade and a crit at the same time, depends on the readers perspective. It's alike your td#2-entry and your autumnbeast...your lineart is so amazing...very clean and just eyecandy...

Thanks a whole bunch for the crits, comments and suggestions everyone. I appreciate it, and I'm glad you like my art. I'l be posting the rest of the 4 Seasons things soon, too. :)
