Only crit is that i would like to see some of your traditional work a bit cleaned up, especially the pencil work. Looks a bit too rushed here and there.
Cheers. :)

Amazing!
Another sketchbook in my bookmark list, great color monster and pencil stuff, the only thing that bothers me slightly is that lots of the female faces look too masculine.

September 18th, 2004, 05:14 PM
oy hurricane, the colors are good, nice color choices. the anatomy on your arms, particularly where the bicecp meets the forearm needs to be studied a bit more. i dont know names of muscles so i cant be more specific. but if u look @ your arms and at an anatomy book or something you'll see what i'm sayin

Really cool sketchbook. Those female figure studies are impressive! I am really really digging your creature designs, and you have a very beautiful, energetic painting style. I can learn a lot by studying your work! Thanks!
I'm looking forward to more. More more! Now, dangit! ;)

:teeth: They weren't really crits. Just wanted to let you know that you're not deranged when saying that you 'hate' it, but there's good elements (to me), and maybe it'll work if you change it around.
And I actually like the colors overall. The blue of the cab is the only thing that I reacted to.
I like the sparkling trees in the new one, traces of grass, moss or whatever it is on the steps, sense of depth, and the shadow/reflection of the leftmost tree on the wet ground.

Your work it most impressive: Very hard to find anything to critique in a less than positive way ~ only thing that I feeling could be improved is the selection or a light source ~ lighting a little confusing at times ~ you seem to render the form units more than creating a light source.
And when you do create a light source, it bounces around a little.
I love your creations ~ think you could add a little more drama with a more definitive light source, more contrast and stronger plane breaks.

Alot of new stuff to wow over since last night! The old man with the eel/snake/Naga-looking creature being the one I like the best. For a slipperly eel, he's got a really good hold on it, so esteem to him for that. The one you posted just after I wrote last is amazing too.

I sat on the bus trying to pick out highlights with a kneaded rubber, and that wasn't to much fun after I tried Leo's and your hightech spinning ones :D

Love the mood in the last colored piece. The volumetric lighting is da shizznit!
Only crit I have for it (might be a matter of personal opinion ;) ) would be the light/lines falling down the left side of the mountaintop there. Looks a bit like the light is bending to follow the terrain.
Next time we meet up, I'm gonna have to check out your digital technique as well.

Wow, lots of goodies in those last batches.
The whale is very good.
By the way, if you have a fast enough computer, lower the spacing of the brushes, in the shadow underneath the whale there are some artifacts.
It will eat up some CPU but your strokes will blend better.

Very nice work, my man! I like the sketches where you restricted you use of lines. Kinda makes one see the original idea. Love the last ones where it looks like you've smudged the whole page and picked out highlights after. That tentacle-face-dog-thing is a prime example! Very organic feel to it. Nice!
Of your latest color concepts, I like the Maicanis Durae Cuto the best. I really get a sense of weight on it, and the muscles really seem to support it! Kick ass job!
I'm gonna give you a little crit this time as well.. The cactus-thingy looks a little flat compared to the other concepts you did. I guess it's not supposed to reflect that much light, but I'd still like to see more difference in value on the big planes on it. Might be wrong, so ignore this at will :P
Keep up the good work! You inspire me to work my ass off to get to where you are!

wow, killer creatures dude. These remind me of my thesis project (mainly because I did the same thing). It's important to flesh out you're creatures with how they act, what they do to survive etc... that stuff really affects the design and makes it convincing on lots of levels.
If you don't already I suggest getting to a science library and digging around for info on weird animals like plankton or cuttlefish, it's amazing how much of this bizarre stuff already exists.
Great work hurricane.

hey hurricane, those concepts rock. only prob i have is with the afer calx deer...thimmiemajig... its anatomy doesnt seem convincingly built for speed. try looking at all the fast animals of our world and see how they are built. cheetah for example has a long slender body...its head is reared a certain way for aero-dynamics etc...and look at the legs as well. id re-do that one if your gonna put it in your portfolio...i love all the other ones though man. i really like how you pull out the forms and block in your values but it all is very detailed. keep up the rocking concepts man.
