damn that's really nice sparth! beautiful colours. you using the screen/color dodge airbrush? you don't have to tell me if it's a secret ;) personally i use the screen brush but stay away from the color dodge because it often gives you illegal colours for printing.
the only (minor) crit is the couple on the flying carpet - they don't look like they're way above the sand dune, like i think they're supposed to. if you could make them look further above the sand, the pic would be even better. of course, i'm just nitpicking - it's an amazing picture :)

shrike is a character/monster from books by dan simmons. hyperion was one of them. He is usally shown(book covers) as a huge dark knight-looking figure with standing with a nice posture.
sparth's design is much cooler ;)

That is damn nice! I guess that I always imagined the Shrike like the book covers a little bit (hate to say they limited my imagination.. but now I realize the covers did) but your version is so much better and more interesting. And it is good to see it in action.. seems like they were always just standing there on the covers.
Gotta say, it is so good to see these. Those are such great creatures. It would be fun to take some time and render them. Those books are what got me reading sci-fi. Always been a fantasy fan but until I read Dan Simmons, I avoided sci-fi for some reason. Now it's almost all I read anymore.

thanx my friends.
geztar: i mess with layers mainly. i do not like dodge very much but i use it sometimes, even though it can ruin things rather easily.
concerning the carpet: for the image itself i should have removed it. it's just that i wanted to make a complete scene, but there are definitely too many subjects in the pict.

Sparth,
Awesome. Everytime I see your work, the colors are so keen.
I do agree with you about the magic carpet and the riders... seems out place and the piece could do without it.

Great stuff (as usual). This is funny, I was about to buy the Hyperion-Collection a few weeks ago but decided to buy a book about orcs instead, which turned out to be absolutely awful later on. This pic makes be looking forward to buying the book next time I'm in that bookstore...
Great!

Looks great, Sparth!
I'm currently reading though the last of the books - don't remember the exact title in english... 'endymion's victory', maybe???
I also do like this design better than the ones on the covers, though I do think that the one on the cover is quite more faithful to the one described in the book. But if the Shrike and the thundergod is not the same thing.. then I'm very sorry! ;)
Everyone should read these books. They are really great on so many levels... Classic scifi, imho! :)
