Hey, Shane!
Nice to see some more of your work.
In the second one, I really like the guy's face in the foreground, but the highlights are more akin to someone in direct light, vice the shadow he seems to be in (according to the strong value difference on the wall behind). The crowd, too, appears to be a value level or two higher than is seemly.
In the first, I'd like to see more definition (not too much) in the sticks on the wall. Right now, they're just a vague collection of shapes. I do like the lighting in there, though.
Nice job.

Niiiiiiiiiiiice. The shadows on the wall of the second one are especially great looking.

they both look real nice , the first one bugs me a bit it seems like all the walls and tower are in some sort of slow motion due to the streaks ( i know its the wood work) but it gives that effect. its all most as if the castle and wall , the whole picture is falling in the sky.
the market scene looks nice perhaps a bit to bright and clean ( go to a country market fair and the amount of animal waste on the ground and walls will suprise you, theres reasons you wear boots and crap cloths to these things, but the things you can pick up more than make up for it,like home made honey in there combs hhhmmm yuum ) anyway i like them but perhaps a bit more dirth.

Hey guys,
BloodCurdler - I work almost exclusivley in Painter 8. The finals on these are only about 2 inches by 1 and a half (the tower ended up getting cropped :S ), but the working files were somewhere in the neighborhood of 8x5 I think. So it's all digital.
dogfood Hey man - how's life treating you? Thanks for posting! You know, you're right about the lighting on the guy in the foreground - I went back and forth trying to decide if I wanted him in full light, or more in the background. I couldn't make up my mind at the time and ran out of time. I think, in rhetrospect he would have worked much better in full sunlight. It would have made the whole picture more dynamic and stronger.
It's interesting, because on the tower picture, you locked onto the same thing the AD did, but we didn't have time to fix that either. I hate being on such short deadlines...
Mike Glad the wood came out good! haha, no seriously, thanks ;)
Groover McNab Heya! How you doing? Thanks! I really got into doing the shadows - they was fun :perv: :tihi:
defcombeta That slow-mo fall is an interesting interpetation. I hadn't noticed that before you mentioned. Just saw stuff that needed to be better defined. But now that you bring it up, I can totally see what you mean.
Haha - yeah I live in a semi-rural environment out here in the islands, and I thought about that. There's a lot I should have done with both of them and regret not doing.
Cheers people,
~Shane
