Check this out: SIGNAL (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/09/02/space.signals.reut/index.html)
May be nothing, but the prospect is kind of exciting

My modern scientific part of the brain tells me that there should be something out there (would be such a big waste of chances if not).My pessimistic part how ever tells me if it's really intelligent it probably got better things to do than make long distance calls or sightseeing tours to earth.
But who knows ,let just hope they come in peace and without layers.

Given the distance...and assuming modern physics holds true..if it were a signal, the signal we're recieving is really, really, really fucking old. And they're really, really, really fucking far away. I don't think you have to worry about any visitations. Not in our life time anyways.

What if they sent the message then left for here a week later? :O :^^:

I'm not worried. I've seen "Signs." Sure they can travel vast distances across the stars, but according to that movie they don't seam to understand long range weaponry or clothes..... That and they fear sprinklers.

It's kind of difficult to figure the distances involved because the signal (if, indeed that is what it is) is coming from "a point between the Pisces and Aries constellations". The stars in both constellations are all going to be at different distances relative to each other and ourselves. Not having any further data to build on, but engaging in a bit of conjecture here, if there is a star in the vacinity that happens to be 75 or 100 lightyears away, then it has only spent 75 to 100 years tranversing the distance from its point of origin to our meager little planet. (Radio waves travel at the speed of light).
The fact that it is being picked up on the "universal radio wave" is very intriguing to me. I think it will be interesting to see how much "air time" this story gets in the coming weeks and months provided it's not a misread. The telling part will be if other observation stations around the world start picking it up as well.
All that said, I tend to cast a dim eye on this type of stuff because I think the media habitually blows it out of proportion and over inflates the facts.
But one can hope.
Cheers,
~Shane

Ohwell. Didn't have time to read the entire article, but it looks like it was as I feared: the media not understanding and blowing things out of proportion.

I don't know about you guys but I hope one of the female alien is hot, cause I've got no chance in earth, might as well take it to the constellation.

Hey, scientists say its a signal... and you know that the majority never grasp for straws to support unfounded theory and conjecture.
Seriously, you start your article this way:
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- An unexplained radio signal from deep space could -- just might be -- contact from an alien civilization, New Scientist magazine reported on Thursday.
What are you trying to do? You put that 'might' and 'could be' in front of anything then you dissolve the responsibility from yourself of being wrong. They can deny that they said it 'was a signal' is all. Time for some more mass media innoculation.
