Hello,

I have just finished submitting my artwork to this year's Spectrum #10 call for entries. This image below is a collage of 5 pieces that I submitted.

I can already tell this is gonna be my favorite thread...you guys are AWESOME!...does it cost money per entry? You will all get in for sure...at the very least one of your pieces...so awesome.

jeez, what can you say about aleksi? sigh. The guy is like an art machine. Press a button and a masterpiece pops out. ;)

Oh, I forgot :
Jason, I really admire your works !

Stalecracker : It seems to be a different approach you try on this set, compared with your usual artpieces
Successful !

Mindcandyman : 20 dollars for each piece, and you're not sure it will be taken for the book.
The competiton increase each year, in number of entries and in quality, which is a very good thing.

Happeh : I'm still searching this button. Each piece seems to me to be a hard fight

Thanks Aleksi...your stuff will get in that's for sure...you rock...if it wasn't a struggle...you wouldn't learn anything

Getting into Spectrum is such a 'Crap Shoot'. There are some years that I submit stuff and nothing gets in. Other years they will accept the piece I dislike the most. Never know with them.

Aleksi- Oh dude. Seeing your stuff all around. Yeah, I really dig your style. The creature paintings are fantastic(I'm a sucker for creatures/monsters). And it's very cool to see you experimenting with photos.

stalecracker- Nice stuff too. The 'Cyberbyne' terminator piece is definitely cool. If you do submit that piece, make sure to NOT mention it's part of the Terminator franchise...other wise you will have to get permission from the owner to get it published. Let's see the others.

There has to be more artists out there that are submitting. Let's see them boyz and girlz!

And finally

Though I'm getting a little nervous after seeing all your entries... But to my credit I'm nervous whenever Jason's around anyway and then I go off rambling and tittering like a little girl...

tee hee hee heeeee

DAAAMMMMM! Fantastic work guys, all of it!

Imp Head quick question...is your work all digital or traditional, I really like the precision you put into the rendering of your work, I like the colour palette too, although I think it would be great to see some more variation/intensity in colours which would bring your work to another level.... I dunno whaddya think?

Felix- I couldn't let you have ALL the glory ;)

Joel- I meant to say something in my previous post but got a little ahead of myself... I love the new style. Is this a product of self introspection or job necessity? Either way it's very cool.

Manta- Everthing up there was done in Painter. About the color, it's ironic, I spent so long trying to figure out how to paint with a unified palette that I don't really know how to do anything different... I guess it's true what they say, you're always learning. I'm hoping to at least have this color thing figured out by my seventeenth birthday. I've got two months, wish me luck!

Thanks Brian et al. Hey, who here will be at GDC this year? I will. I saw you, Jason, last year at the "Artist draw off" for the video card (congrats, btw). I won one too! Had to sell it though as my dumb ass old computers motherboard had no slot that would hold it. BAH... anyway.

I am so looking forward to Spectrum #10. Seeing all this awesome art up here makes me all giggly and excited. Maybe, some day, I'll get to submit some art to Spectrum, too.

Ah~
I'm very slow, so don't laugh at my questions. Could some one fill in the blanks for me?

All: What is Spectrum? Where can i find more information about it?

stalecracker: What is the GDC that you mentioned?

stalecracker
January 18th, 2003, 04:22 PM
Mushuhaha: GDC is the Game Developers Conference. It's held in San Jose', Ca. March 4-8, 2003. The conference itself isn't all that fun, but there seminars and talks are pretty cool.

IMP got a question for ya. what medium do you work in for most your stuff? acrylic, oil? just curious. I like the tightness of your work. the earthy colors work well also. just curious. =P

I submitted only one this year because I always send more and sadly never get in. Besides my work from last year reaked. This is probably my better piece.

luis, i agree with mindcandy, this is wonderful. you are capturing something of a symbolism and mystery that i sadly miss in my own work. keep going and keep sending things to spectrum. they get new judges each year.

Since this is the spectrum thread I can say this...jon you are the master of the spectrum domain...you always have like 5 pieces in there hehe...symbolism and mystery or not...you are pumping out some sweet stuff!

-you aren't slipping the judges cash are you?

Hey Foster,
I missed you at the Comic Con. I saw your booth, but you were gone. I wanted to meet you. Well I'll try to make the next one if I have enough money to travel to the west again. I really enjoy looking at your stuff and thanks for the advice. Cool.

hahahaha ...I wish I could enter something by next year... I hope I have the skills by then...something to work towards I guess.

My avatar isn't a copy...It's the one I wanna do next though...it's another sargent. Velasquez and Sargent are really appealing to me...their style and mastery is what I want to try to emulate...others of course are awesome but their works always make me linger a bit longer.

Thanks for the compliment on the sargent copy...I am reworking it to try to get it up to par...it's so tough. I am gonna keep going though. I would love to see you do one...I'd love to see you take a stab at

Nymphs and Satyr, Bouguereau...I would be interested to see what would come of that. Talk to you soon.

One of my life goals is to have at least one piece make the cut for Spectrum at some point in the near future. This discussion has and will continue to inspire me to work hard to that end! Everyone's input, regardless of whether or not they made it in, is valuable and helpful (your work is great Luis!!!).

Jon, t seems you have a good "in" when it comes to information on entry information so please keep us posted as you have so faithfully done. It would be nice to share in the experience with you.

Here's to hard work and receptive judges!!! :chug:
