Welcome to my first image posting on the forum. I painted this in painter and photoshop and welcome your constructive criticism and or comments. It's a concept piece for a planet in the star wars universe known as Raxis Prime.

Damned cool, good atmosphere from the rain!

The only thing is that the shadowy figure in the foreground is quite muscular...

Cool, could you tell us more about Raxis Prime? might make us be able to understand the whole piece better.

very good atmosphere(sp?) I especially like the reflection in the water/puddle.

one thing though...the figure in the forground has a very blurry outline to the character itself, but the weapon has a very sharp outline...I suggest that you make them equally blurry/sharp...and I would go for sharp(with the current position), I think for the figure to turn out so blurry he should be closer to the POV(focus vs. unfocused) ... unless of course you want the viewer to take on the role as a poor sighted person :P

very interesting image, the world looks like its an industrial hell hole andthe creature in the fore ground is a mutated human due to long term exposure. the features appears warped and odd compared to the more natural human form of the jedi. one thing in foreground should the water still have ripples that reflect the light around it etc.

overall its nice, but i don't really see a focus. the guy in the foreground and the guy in w/ the lighsaber in the middleground are kidda fighting for attention. can u make either one of them clearer and sharper?

I'm a big fan of Star Wars! Very good dark atmosphere in this drawing.

Thanks everyone for the posts. I agree, even though this was a quick painting, I could have fixed the blur or lack thereof on the foreground characters spear. The planet is roughly a planet of junk and industry. Ripples can still show light reflections, but I agree with you again...I may have stretched it a bit on that one. :teeth:

My idea was that this jedi character came to this planet to meet with the humanoid character. It's raining acid, it's humid, and the jedi character doesn't completely trust the humanoid, that is why with their first meeting he is keeping his distance, looking around for ambushes, and is approaching the foreground with lightsaber drawn. The moment is one of withdrawn caution. I think maybe I should go and make a new painting of this. Thanks for the comments and critique. :)

I think this is excellent work. I too am inspired heavily by Star Wars. I have just finished my first post that you can find here with a Star Wars theme. A matte painting. Here Han Solo and Lando are doing a deal with the huts for some major smuggling :)

wow i really like this!

the enviroment reminds me of the bridge scene in Johnny Mnemonic.

The jedi looks really cool and you can tell straight away what is happening, however the guy in the forground is a little strange due to the blur on him but not on his staff/stick.

all in all its a great piece :confident

Hey, this is a great piece, in my opinion being held back by one link that is decidedly weaker than everything else... the silhouetted figure in the foreground looks very hastily done. I can't speculate on how you did it, but the only way I can articulate my observation is to say it looks like you went right for the 2d image without first drawing it as a real 3d form. The end result lacks believability to me, and seems to be at a level of quality far below the rest of the piece.

The only other nitpick I'd add is the reflection of the light saber. It goes so far back in space that it almost touchs the base of the figure. It is seemingly further back in space than the light which it is purportedly a reflection of. That's impossible. In fact, the reflection should be much further forward on the ground. Picture the whole scene viewed from the side. Imagine the figure on the right, and you on the left - where on the ground would you see the reflection? Maybe it's not supposed to be a reflection, but it's supposed to be the light shining on the ground? If so, it's too directly identical to the saber itself in color and intensity.

I agree with chris about the character in the forground - it lacks the depth the rest of this picture has. I recommend spending a bit more time on him and definning his form a bit better

About the composition: I think its is kind of interesting, but i think if you were to make this piece wider with the hero and villan futher apart it would have more of subliminal and metaphorical statement that they are divided and different. Although I think you did a good job of this by having one in shadow and the other character in light. Ofcourse these are very subjuctive matters and it depends on what you are going for in the piece.
