View Full Version : RPG Map (WIP) Need help

Hi this is my first ever post so dont flame me. :)
I'm not a a painter in fact i've only just recently started. I'm a 3d modeller and animator and am trying to improve my artistic eye. This is the main island on this map. Please give me any tips or suggestions or anything to help me improve this. Thanks guys

it needs more ideas...start adding ideas.


in rpgs you go around and discover cool stuff....what is there to discover on your island?

I guess i should have been clearer. This is one island on this map of about 10 or 11 islands. All the town will be added in later. I'm actually just trying to paint a stylized yet somewhat realistic terrain. But like I said I'm new to painting and really need some advice and guidance. Any tutorials would be great too. Thanks for the reply.

I think maybe adding a desert or perhaps a wasteland that people are afraid to visit. Also, maybe a port where ships could dock and unload. Something man-made to show a section of the island where it was altered to fit our needs. A damn, perhaps?

You may want to get some reference pics of the earth for ideas. I think National Geographic would be a good place to start. And I remember a book that was filled with pictures of earth from space. Can't recall the name though... Damn it, now it's going to bug me all night. But anyway, try a good old google search for some pics to keep the ball rolling. Nice job so far.

Yeah mainly you just need to add details and landmarks to your map to spice it up, also if you where to angle it a little instead of strait down it would help out a lot ( but that all depends on what your requirements are for this project).

Anyway your map reminds me of something I had to do a little while ago, although I know it’s not the best map it should give you some ideas
