yeah, you can find the books scanned online at http://www.fineart.sk/ and if you want to buy the books, you need to just be patient and buy them off of ebay. I spent over a year trying to find and get the best prices on them and have bought them all off of ebay.

Hi Bowlin Im quite new here too and loving this place already myself, artist life can be so lonely and isolated and who other understands artist more than another artist, I particularly like the second sketchbook page because you vary more in the lines that sometimes they are more thicker and darker sometimes lighter and also you are moore loosed and expressive not thinking too hard what you are drawing, I think thats important and makes sketches look nice and interesting

Darkside - Thanks man, but progressing? hmmmm... hehehe .... and yes that's prismacolors, looks good, but takes a long time for simple studies in a sketch book.
Maxetormer - Thank you.
Egets - Thank you very much for your compliments. :)

Thanks Interceptor. Very nice of ya to say. :)
sve... thank ya. I'm not sure what you mean by "i took it, ok?". If you mean saved it to your computer or whatever, sure, feel free too. :)
vigostar.. Thanks for the complements, man. It does look like she has no neck. I was trying to make it look like her shirt was being blown up with wind from her hands, but it was such a quick doodle that i didn't spend time to really analyze it. Proably could have added some details with a different type of shirt to get the effect better, but i was really just tryin to learn what to use to render better in painter. This tablet is sooo difficult for me... need to get a cintiq to have a better "hands on" feel. ..................... P.S. your girlfriend is soooo hot!!! I seriously envie you! You should be drawing that girl all the time. :P

Did a study from a Hildebrant brothers painting. Found it way to difficult to try to mimmic actual acrylic in digital, so i just half tried in a lot of areas.

A link (http://spiderwebart.com/enlarge.asp?image=101407b.jpg) to the original Hildebrandt piece.
An unfinished oil painting from Phil Hale.

And some kind of moon dog/werewolf.... something... kinda thang... heh. Just trying to really figure out these oils, and had the worst time with that rocks... need to start doing some more rock studies.

On the Hildebrant copy your clouds look way to regular
rember that clouds are moslty abstract shapes,
if you repeat the same curve angle and posicion to
much it will look false, same goes with the trees,
the colors on the other hand are spot on!! kudos on that;
the P. Hale copy is looking really REALLY GOOD,
and this last ones are nice as well, but the sphere on the
second page look off color wise, remeber that if you put a
pink-brownish object surrounded by a green enviroment
the object will cach some green on the reflected ligths.
This is a link that you could find usefull, its got some pretty
asum information on color and on other things as well!!
http://itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm
Keep it UP, I really like the work your are displaying!

Thanks for the reply Maxetomer. :) I didn't treally try to hard in replicating that Hildebrandt piece, the thing I was focusing on was mixing oil paints in Painter without using the little selection thing. I was hoping this would help me learn how to mix more subtle colors digitally. (but I don't feel much success, was a pain in the neck!)
Green light reflected on the sphere is not alway neccessary, because it's an image of nothing but the sphere floating in front of a green background. I make a lot of colored balls and then just try some different backgrounds with the idea of the squares used in art classes... where a color changes when surrounded by another... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/bowlin/greenbrowncolorblock.jpg
And even if there is reflected light, how much and what type of lighting can be whatever you want... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/bowlin/greenreflectball3.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/bowlin/greenreflectball2.jpg
My point is when there is nothing in the picture, but a ball and a flat colored background... you can pretty much do whatever want with reflected light... there's no standard or proper approach... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/bowlin/greenreflectball4.jpg

Thanks man I really appreciate the compliment. I haven't been keeping this sketchbook up to date much, mostly because I'm trying my best to do a lot of anatomy sketches. What I'm doing is just copying the same drawings from out of a book or from this great anatomy statue (http://www.freedom-of-teach.com/products/prod_category.php?sect=products&pid=cat_anatomy) over and over. To clarify, the exact same drawing over and over. It's mind numbing and not very exciting to look at, so I don't bother posting. :)

I have no clue why there are stripes when I use my scanner. Sometimes they're there, sometimes they aren't. I've spent too many hours trying to figure it out, and finally just given up. So I hope you like sketches with stripes in them :P . heheh. Also wanted to throw in my thunderdome pieces.
