Im Scottish, im colourblind, Im 19(now 21), I love illustration, and I am starting my own business in freelance illustration soon(hopefully If all goes well).
This is my 3rd DSB, so Its gonna be better than the last rubbish one. My resolution for this sketchbook is to hold back posting utter crap that I used to rush out just for the sake of posting things, and just post my art when I really think I have something worth sharing this time.

Lo there Shinryu, fellow scotsman :D Thnx for the reply dude, yeh the colours are a bit bland on the last post huh. To answer your question, I went to trusty ol' Telford College in Edinburgh to study illustration rather than Glasgow :P The college may be a dungheap, but that doesnt reflect the quality of the tutors there AT all :)

Woke up at 9am, looked in the mirror and did a quick sketch of my face half asleep. Used the whole afternoon to shade the darn thing in 2h/B Pencil in an A5 sketchbook. Painted over with a few highlights etc and a drab of colour in PS. Theres also a small colour study slapped next to it I did out of my head yesterday, like a kind of flare fizzing/bubbling in water or something(done with a mouse btw) :S

ARGHHHH ILLUSTRATION IS SUCH A LOAD OF SHITE ITS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
So i walk into waterstones(book shop) and flick through the design section, and come across a wee book with lots of drawings in it... drawings that a fucking 10 year old tit with a ball point pen could have drawn blindfolded instead of a real illustrator.
My god i hate poncy arty fucking farty trendy illustration, its just such a fucking mockery of proper illustrators, those baggy trouserd arsewipes with there elitist attitudes and generally bullshit drawings with meaning.
This is a tribute to the one and only jon burgerman (and everyother wanker who cant draw for shit but yet still gets lots of work) who although i respect him as a fucking good business man, i think his work is utter shite.
http://www.mi7shogun.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/websitesketches/Pish.jpg
P.S. New Years Resolution: Actually PROPERLY start a business in illustration and fucking show these snobby tits how to bloody do it right!
Sorry for the swearing, no offence meant, just had to make my self clear.

I noticed your colorblind up there, crazy, I was going to comment that I really loved your choice in colors, you really take a sometimes harsh color, say that electric blue, and keep it from being something distracting in the picture.

This is just a quick texture thing Ive drawn and a wee pic trying to make the most of each brush stroke, nothing special. I keep losing my custom brushes in PS and have to create new ones again, anyone know how to back them up?

Damn man, I'm 19, and you gave me some inspiration in using color. I'm colorblind as well (red/green) :P Found out during some eye tests when i was thinking about joining the Airforce. Well, screw the military decided to go to school for animation, and art. Your style is awesome man. You dont understand how relieving this is too me. Sorry if I couldnt leave any critiques, not confident enough yet to do so.
BTW are you Completely color blind(you see black and white)? Because, if you are, damn man you are a VERY select few in this world who are, HELL it's even more rare than blind people from what Ive read.... I give you even more praise if you are.

Soz for late reply, been away doing stuff, living life, enjoying stuff etc. Ive got a bunch of stuff to post, but aint got round to takin pics or scanning them(when i get it set up).
Darolan: Cheers bud, what can I say, I love colour!
Wisdom_Cube: Yeh, im Red/Green as well.. but Its never stopped me.. i just need to ask now n again or use labelled products. Lime green/yellow, purple/violet etc, reds/browns, u get the drift.. its just a bit hard to distinguish em apart.
Anyway, heres 2 tiny things for now: The first is a quick mock of a CD cover illustration for someone Im doin for free for a mate, and the second is just a quick bash In PS of a ladyboy?... haha!
If someone can guess the subject matter behind the first image, then they get a pat on the back from me, cos Its got a bit of thought put into it! :P

Mr.Blonde: Cheers, I dunno bout much drawing gestural figure work(ive never done a life drawin class ever you see), im still workin on that atm. Ive been doodlin figures from me brain every day at work which I'll post very soon which are gestural to a certain degee! I just cant get the angles right in my brain, its so frustrating lol. My poses aren't natural, they are stiff and rigid and have about as much flair as a tree. Anyway, I painted this tonite to see what I could come up with. Lo folks,
Acorn: Cheers mate, I use a hefty A3 and A4 sketchbook depending on where I am at the time.
EccoXile: Thanks again.. yeh my figures are shite atm rofl, I really need to go to a life drawing class, then Ill rock the boat lol(hopefully :P)
oven g love: Roger that, although personally I'd say I got the technical ability, just not the theoretical ability lol.
Berf: Colours are good, is perhaps colourblindness a good thing then lol?
JeroArt: I share the same opinion, variation is key to becoming a successful illustrator imo, I want to be an all rounder rather than a gimmick tbh, a bit like a plumber, but I would be yer local illy boy instead :P Ive had job offers in the past year, none which I chased up, I wasn't quite ready tbh. BUT I intend to start v soon, ill keep yall posted on progress.
Anyway pff, reason Im replyin the now is to get an opinion, this is a sketch im deciding to finish up for a change, but im not to sure on the cropping or about the tight layout atm. I really like the intamacy in the little relationship between the guy n' the fly but any help would be sweet.

Its primarily done with acrylic paints, and then some coloured pencil over the acrylic to get the gradiants right. The pencil gives it a really nice texture as well, which is cool. I dunno, but I think I may do this more often, its boring subject matter to paint, but Im quite taking to the two mediums together, works v nicely, v practial!

I think the legs are too small, but I can't quite judge exactly. I've been using many references but just can't seem to get it right. Normally I would keep trying this type of thing until I get it right, but I don't have all day to spend working on it, and would ideally like to finish it soon so I can get it into my portfolio pronto :D.

Hi cocofupa!
Nice stuff you have here. I like your fat lines.
About the deer legs (the front ones) if you just make them stright and pointing down will improve a lot.
Hope that helps :)
Keep drawing!

Yeah- Straight and pointing down would be best, IMO.

Cartoon Fox: Cheers mate, only me, you and any UK going members would get the thread title :P But seriously, HOW GOOD are greggs sausage rolls! :D
Thegreypencil: Hmmm ill think about it, not promising anything like :P
For some reason I got inspired to paint a figure. It's totally no ref, 30mins, and signals an improvement for me. I've still never been to a life drawing class, so the drawing is just based on my memory and observations, and considering I hardly draw figures, im happy with it.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/Cocofuppa/Figure.jpg
It's still shit compared to most folk here's anatomy studies, but its no too shabby like, it has a bit more form and weight imo.

howdy!
grrrr.....n vege pasty!?!?!?!? *RAGE*
by theway,,,ahem. nice anatomy study but you might wanna push the abdomen out abit more...go ref...its looking too vertically aligned right now those covexities.
also yea its good to draw without ref.....but dont let it become a habit. things you are ignorant about should be corrected as soon as possible eh!
draw on!

thegreypencil: Thank's mate, I will try and use reference more often. Judging by your own anatomy studies, I can see you know your stuff, awesome sketches!
Anyway, just posting some stuff I have drawn in-between things like accidentally burning myself in the sun etc etc.

No replies to the last post eh... cunts lol.
Anyway, here is the start of what is to be my next piece, it's about finances and how you can lose money as if out of thin air if you arn't careful with it.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/Cocofuppa/pig2.jpg
The idea is to visualise lots of piggybanks floating away by helium balloons into the sky, looking very worried and nervous.
Oh and the final version of that stag is available to check out on my website for anyone who cares.

I like the piggybank pic too thought without having read the text I thought "yeah money has an easy way to just fly away"....I like the sketch better than the finished piece though...but it still a strong piece since you get your thoughts and message through to the viewer.

Oven g love: Glad you liked it, the end result was somewhat of a rush job, and personally I'd love to finish up the painterly sketch, but I still love the idea 'cos many people can relate to it.
Mindflaw: Again, many thanks dude, I guess the image is a success then, if without any text, it made YOU think the same as what I was thinking when I created it. Cheers
No new work atm, but ill probably have something this week maybe lol.

Hello folks, long time no speak, I almost forgot about this sketchbook! Anyway, I've discovered some free time just now, so I thought it would be a good idea to start drawing a bit more often. Just a life drawing of a pint of water just now(pencil 2h + 2b, sorry for crap cam quality), but more to come...
