CALLING ALL VANCOUVER ARTISTS!!!
Ok considering the other Vancouver group thread seems dead. I thought i would create a new one.
I think we should all seriously make this real and start up a art group. I live in Vancouver, and it would be really cool, having a group. To go draw with. Drawings my life so i will have no problems.
-- Firstly, everyone that is from Vancouver or really close and can make it there for a meeting spot should state, where they are.
-- And times they are available.
Lets get this going.
Im in North Delta, B.C. and can easily get to Vancouver.

I'm on the border of Vancouver and Burnaby...Weekends are always good. I work on the N.Shore and off at 3:30 usually. So heading downtown is always an option.

Yeah it tis lookn good.
-- The time has almost come, we have lots of people now. But even though we do, anyone is aloud to join, that can make it to the meeting spot.
I thought since we are waiting for more people, but if they don't show we will still meet. But, where do you guys, think a good spot to meet is.
Me and a few others, were thinking Downtown Vancouver, cause that is pretty much the most popular part of Vancouver. And everyone mostly knows there way around there, better than other parts of Vancouver.
Downtown Alright??
Also, i am going to go Downtown, soon, to check for a place where we can all meet, and i will take pictures of it so we can all see. And post them on here.
First, what is a good day for everyone to meet?? I and some others were thinking a Sunday? Also, if everything works out by this weekend, would everyone be up for meeting this weekend? Or Next Weekend??
Also i emailed Brasshorsekiller again, so hopefully he gets it.
Oh yeah and JMAY - we will hopefully meet once a week. Your in :D

Sunday sounds good to me. though it be better next weekend.
As for location, well depending on the weather, we might want to consider making sure we have a back up plan in case it rains. if you were thinkin about outside initially.
Now The Gallery is always a good spot....lots of things going on there....
Kryaus
September 1st, 2004, 03:58 PM
Sunday would be good. I am not sure if I could do every week but biweekly would be ok. If the weather is good Kits beach has lots of subject matter & a pretty cool comic shop on 4th. MetroTown is a good for the people watching as well & lots of open spaces. Can't beleive I almost forgot False Creek/ Granville island..
Warhead82
September 1st, 2004, 03:58 PM
Ok good.
I was thinking inside though, in like a internet cafee sort of thing, like a cofee shop. Where there is tables and stuff. But that is up to everyone.
Spartan
September 1st, 2004, 04:40 PM
I'm more into the inside thing - at least until we get this thing rolling, anyway. That said, Metrotown is a bad, bad place to do this. Its loud, there's mallrats everywhere and no place to relax and draw...unless you count the food court which is arguably even louder and more crowded than the rest pf the mall. How about the Soho Cafe on Homer St.? Its downtown, cool music and nice laid back atmosphere...?
Just my 2 cents

That soho cafe sounds alright. Subeez wouldn't be that bad either. I've told Warhead that Sunday would be the best for me.
Warhead82
September 1st, 2004, 09:15 PM
Sweet, guys, the soho cafe sounds good. I have to find it though. Where is it from Granville skytrain station?
Also subeez sounds good or even, Granville Island False Creek Somewhere is cool. Im down for any of these. But if people can tell me where Soho and Subeez is i will go down and check them out.
Justin.
Spartan
September 1st, 2004, 09:25 PM
Soho is on Homer St. - directly accross from 1111 Homer. I don't know where Subeez is, but I know its a big IGDA hangout :P. To get to Soho from the granville skytrain station, just walk down granville till you hit Davie, then take a left onto Davie and walk till you get to Homer, then take another left, and it should be on the right hand side fo the street, when you are facing north.
OR - use mapquest and figure a faster way ! ;)

September 3rd, 2004, 08:42 PM
Ok guys this is it. I went downtown today, but i couldn't really find that soho place well, cause i am walking and, it was supposively so damn far away from where i was. So i found a different place. But it seems pretty good, i have pictures.
- Ok the place is called -- BLENZ COFFEE BLENZ
- It is located on the corner of Granville and Nelson street.
- The girl working there said it was cool if we come in there, if we buy a couple drinks or something, like cofee, pop, juice, muffins and shit, whatever you want...
They are open at 8am to 4 pm.
One of the reason's i chose this place was because there wasn't very many people in there. So lots more room for us. And there was tables close together, and fit 6 people on each. and there is 2 rows, therefore 12. Plus more scattered around. If we don't like it, we can always move somewhere else together.
If you are taking the bus and skytrain, how to get there on skytrain. When you get to Granville Skytrain station, when you are coming out of the skytrain station, take a left, and get on the otherside of the road, and walk all the way down the street, until you see BLENZ COFFEE BLENZ, and thats the place, it is really close to the skytrain station. It will be on your right side.
Here are a few pictures of the place.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/Warhead82/inside2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/Warhead82/inside.jpg
If i missed anything, tell me.
Now also, what would be a good time for everyone to meet?????
Also, do you guys want to meet this sunday or next?????
Everyone please respond to the above questions.
Thanks.
Justin.

Wow - you've done your homework! Looks good...
I'm down for this sunday. I think making it bi-weekly would be good though. The morning works for me, but can we have the decency to wait till 10:00 ;)
Kryaus
September 4th, 2004, 01:46 AM
If we can make it a little later that would be great. I have to try & get a babysitter & catch a ride with Orion so it should be do-able then.
Warhead82
September 4th, 2004, 02:20 AM
How about, we make the meeting time 11:00 Am, and if people are a little late, thats fine, i will be there at 11:00am ish
Also, kryaus and orion thats fine if you get there around 11 or 1130 or w.e we will be there, but try not to be to long, the place closes at 4 pm
OK so everyone that is going, go to the meeting place this sunday then.
And we will make it a regular thing, every sunday same time we can meet. Also i will post reminders, some.
Bring, all the drawing supplies, you want. Tria markers, pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, etc.. Your imagination. :D A note book, if you want, incase you learn something from others, and want to right it down.

Since my life is lacking in the social aspect due to having no connections in Vancouver, it'd be awesome to meet some fellow artists. It's too bad that I missed the first meeting, if only I had checked the forums a few days earlier.

Spartan
September 9th, 2004, 06:25 PM
Dunno - Something broad enough so we can get a ton of different interpretations, but that focuses us enough fo rus to produce cool stuff. Not like "The power of love and loss of innocence", but maybe some type of 'world' (deserty, icy, whatever) and we all design characters or creatures or plants that exist in it ..? Anything goes - you guys got any good ideas?

I am working at a store right now on 4th, we are getting a new plasma screen in, the whole 9 yards, I will talk with the owners next week and see if maybe we can arrange to have the group meet there on Sundays, it has awesome seating as well.

Right now, I am looking for apartment close to the school. The campus is on Pacific Street and Burrard. I am looking at a 1 bedroom to share. Therefore, I'll avoid paying the transport fare. Otherwise, if theres an apartment less expensive in Kits or around that neighborhood, that's good too. If its a 20 minutes walk to school that's fine by me.
I saw a few apartments in the WestEnd that want for 750$ to 850$ which would be great. I don't want to pay more than 440$ for rent/month.

Hey MrFrost, thats cool man. I'll have to look into getting a membership. I really want to start life drawing again,I find it really helps with my figure drawing.
Spartan(Chris),dude,I just saw a bunch of skydoll books at sophies books on seymour and west pender. I think that is the right address, you might want to check the phonebook before you go,if you decide to go. The making of sky doll,is $40 and has pencils and concept sketchesd, and the two skydoll comics, are around $20. I wanted to get them, but I'm a little short on cash,so maybe next month. For the making of book,I think there are two left, skydoll 1,I think there is one left, and there are alot of skydoll 2. I think its pretty new,and thats why theres alot. All of the books are pretty nice, european style hard covers...

Are we still meeting at 11am?
And ikaru, the directions are in this thread, but here i will repost them
Ok guys this is it.
These were the tables i was talking about, harder to tell in pic, but they are good.
They fit 2 people table.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/Warhead82/inside2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/Warhead82/inside.jpg
Also here is a view of sort of some more of the place. There is more to the right, plus outside and a bit in the back of the place.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...d82/inside2.jpg
And so you know what the place looks like, here is a pic of the outside.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/Warhead82/outside.jpg
If i missed anything, tell me.
Now also, what would be a good time for everyone to meet?????
Also, do you guys want to meet this sunday or next?????
Everyone please respond to the above questions.
Thanks.

Sorry Its kinda short notice before tomorrow........still not sure where your meetings exactly take place.... Blendz coffee shop..... what part downtown? does it change every week or so?...sorry for the confusion, just wanted to clarify things a bit......:^^;:
Just look for Kripps Convenience store at Nelson & Granville, and we're right across from that store. I was sitting in the coffe shop last week sketching the front of the Kripps place. It's right at the corner of the intersection.
I'll be there for Tomorrow (Oct. 17th), are people still planning on showing up ?

woke up at 12:30 and faced the choice of sleeping off the massive hangover or going to draw with a massive hangover. :-D

Everyone that didnt go, i would have to say missed out on the best sketch group meeting of all time! It was nuts.
And everyone that did go, it was great great times, had so much fun didnt want to leave. And welcome to so many of the new members that showed up. :D looking forward to seeing the other new members also, and everyone else that missed it. I guarantee, if we have everyone there at once we will definetely need a new meeting place"bigger" place. But blendz is still working out for now...
Dope times guys, and pablo, or "paul" - it was awsome meeting you man, your an awsome guy, and made it alot of fun, good luck with the trip back to LA and hope you come down again, if your in the area :P and if you see this :P

Hey guys, well I have to say I am choked I missed out on the group this weekend BUT I confirmed it with the owners and we are more than welcome to have the group in on a permanent basis, now I know everyone has been meeting on granville but the shop is in kits.
You can either take the burrard st or granville st bus across the bridge, we are two blocks up from Westbeach and Pacific Boarder.
Plus, the plasma screen is going in on Tuesday and I just got surround sound wired into the store lol. We have a full coffee bar, lunch, muffins, cookies, you name it.
Let me know if Kits will work for everyone!

god, i knew id be kicking myself for not going....the weather was so univiting...turned into a bad excuse for not going...I think i need a slap from everyone that went...so please slap me. :nohope:
another thing. I would like to see what everyone thinks about also making a day during the week, where we could all meet up as well. Kind of like an alternative if sunday is no good. What do you guys think??

Hey Guys - sorry I missed out, apparently, I REALLY missed out!
So whats the deal with next week, we're changing venues?!
Warhead82
October 18th, 2004, 04:26 PM
We shouldn't change places yet, but presence, is this place, like really good, can you get pictures or something?? And is there tables like all bunched together, so we can all sit together??
If so good, and i mean about 20 seats, with drawing room on a table?? Cause we have about, 15 or more if everyone shows. Plus all the new comers, that will probably eventually join. Think you can get a pic, or a few, so that we, know what this place looks like, and we don't get screwed going there, cause blendz is going good right now. But if you have a better place and can prove it to us hehe, well then, dope.
Also blendz is really good for new people, and people that don't really know the area too well, because it is really easy to find, especially if you are taking, bus. We don't want people not coming, cause they can't find the place or some silly reason. So if you can get balling out of control directions, i mean good.
:D
Yeah you guys missed out big time! It should be kickass the next too if people show.
Well just to start it off now, im totally down for this weekend.

See you all this sunday,

ps.thanks prescence, that sounds awesome, but I have to agree with justin that we should stay at blendz for now. When were more established and larger as a group, then we should move, possibly to kits...thats just my take on the issue...

October 20th, 2004, 03:30 PM
Yeah War if everyone wants to keep it going at Blenz it is probably a good idea.
I only have seating for about 10 people and half of that is front counter bar style seating.
The directions are super simple though, if you are downtown just take the burrard street bus across the bridge to West4th get off and walk west two blocks.
We have a full late/cap bar, cookies, muffins, etc.
War if ya want stop by, coffee is on me man.

October 21st, 2004, 01:27 AM

It was totally fun - some homeless dude wandered in and put a painting down aginst the wall. Then, an hour later, he comes running back in, picks up the painting, NAILS IT TO THE WALL, and starts to run out. Now get this: HE DOUBLES BACK TO STRAIGHTEN IT! Once its satisfactory, he sorta shambles out the door, leaving everyone either laughing or looking completely puzzled. ahh - good times.
Oh yeah, and their coffee bar was busted too.

How about some kind of redesigns?game, comics, cartoons, movie characters, previous character you designed, etc... :android:
clothing designs of people from different worlds, universes? Like designs for garbage men, police, postal workers, sushi chefs from the future or something like that...
Environments?
animals?
It would be great to have a set theme for each week,it will force us to do something outside of our usual stuff

I had a great time as usual everybody. I look forward to next week. Maybe we should suggest themes during the week, and then choose a theme by saturday. What do you think? Also,me and spartan were talking yesterday, and discussed a possibliity of a group project. Maybe creating a whole new world or environment. Would you guys be interested in something like that? It would allow us to hone our concept design skills. Anyways,if we decided to do something like that, people who are not interested in the idea of a project could just sketch anything like they usually do...

Hey adien,it was cool seeing you again man.hope to see you regularly. The new drawing in your sketchbook looks good man.
