Hey Icey,
Been cruising thru your impressive SB, and I am admiring your skill with the mechanical pencil? renderings. Beautiful consistent work.
I love Frazetta's work, all of it. And the studies that you've done are frst rate. Also your color veggie fruit studies are vwery well done. Am looking at them intensely to see how you work the painting process.
But, what I really love, in your thread, are the life and the hands and feet studies. Much observation has gone into these and it shows your hard excellent work. Keep it up.
P.S. Thanks much for stopping by the CGtalk SB. I appreciate the bump up in rating. Will be watching your SB for MORE great entries. Have some more stars.

You've got some skill with the pencil, I enjoyed this in particular http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c213/bogdannemes/0216.jpg
My criticism is that you tend to leave unrendered white areas on planes which are perpendicular or almost perpendicular to each other, this is a clear example http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c213/bogdannemes/0212.jpg
If you want to stick to that sort of style then pushing the darks near the lights will accentuate both shapes http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c213/bogdanne (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c213/bogdannemes/0210.jpg)
it'll accentuate that sort of broken rhythm you've got going I think.
paperX
April 3rd, 2007, 02:08 AM
hey icey! like the creature designs...however just one small crit, they always have this really clean cut look from the background that really distracts...for example with the second picture (the slug looking monster) the big black (what i presume to be either slime or ink left by the monster..that made it much more believable...maybe try painting some mini background colours next time and add a dash of the colours on to the creature, that way it would make it much more realistic. just my 2 cents :)

awesome linework man ,the pencil looks sucha potent weapon in your hand. WMA stuff.
Great.

April 3rd, 2007, 02:29 AM
Your graphite works just kicks my ass in so many ways. Inspires me to work on my shading... just a little.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c213/bogdannemes/0213.jpg
this is my new favourite thing. Reminds me of Witkin's stuff
You know what you should be? An anatomist. Yeah :D
A small crit though, about your colour digi-creatures: A crisp brushstroke or 'outline' between the creature and its background could make or break an image. sometime the colour seem a little soft and mudde where they shouldn't be.
Aiight, thats about it. Keep up the awsome :D

armando - you are right! I'll be thinking about this in my next drawings! Thanks a lot for critiques.
paperX - i will! I just need to learn a lot more about painting and colour values to increase my realism.... Thank you!
bhanu - i don't know what WMA is, but i like the sound of rest! :D Thanks a lot!
bunny - thank you! I will try different things, see what works and what doesn't. About the anatomy part i keep saying myself what harvey dunn said - "in making a picture you should excite interest, not educate!" I think i'll go by his hand on this one :)

These last couple of posts of strange figures are great. I love the gesture in the hands. I feel almost sorry for the poor creatures....they are twisted and deformed but still they have emotion inside of them and aren't simply "monsters". They seem sad in a way.

hey man great stuff! i still think they have a bit of that "clean edge, cut out look"...may i suggest you try laying down the background and character in big bold silhouette shapes for your next painting endeavor? things look more interesting when they are affected by their environment (reflected lighting etc...) an background can also give your pieces a mood and make them much more interesting.......i can imagine your monsters in a dark environment giving off an eerie unnatural glow....:P
keep working hard man :)

wild sketch book. I gave u five stars in hopes of getting you to a 5 star book.... but I was fruitless. Wouldn't mind seeing your previous art to see the improvement made.
Your pencil control is a thing of envy. very beautiful work. but im afraid I'll get nightmares from it.
The dino cows are wicked... jealous that I dont have that kind of imagination... somewhat relieved wen I read that you weren't thinking of competing. keep kickin ass and thanx for the inspiration.

really nice stuff! ::) the sketches are great, are the abmornalities inspired from life? if you've never seen the Mutter museum you should definitely check it out, its entire collection is made up of advanced human deseases and abnormalities/deformations, and was originally used for doctors and students so they could study the effects of the deseases. anyway can't wait to see more!

snubbed - thank you for caring.. a lot of people just leave a reply and leave. Is not that i'm ashamed, is that people tend to look up the first page sometimes and just aren't happy with what they see and leave. And is that thing that i've cleared a lot of old stuff from my photobucket page, but you can see some of my old stuff in my SOFA thread - link in my signature. The development is not something out of the ordinary - i don't have an art school to make my studies interesting and i only had few life drawings in my life so most of it are ugly looking picture drawings.... :) well... thanks again!

Chaichan - thank you very much!
Ash888 - Thank you! And thank you for taking the time to point out what you like!
draw - you are right, i could use a little more materiality. But at the moment i'm concerned with a result that could describe my shape best, and i like the combinations with the linedrawing.
lennon - i don't think that's the best example of digital painting i have, but thank you. I have about the same process but it depends on the mood of the drawing/subject. In fact, the image you gave me as an example is just a regular painting, with few brushes over the drawing, and as you can see, the first lines are pretty obvious there. But i'm sure i'll find a way to improve.
Iridyse - hey! Thanks a lot! Didn't noticed it. I don't think i'll manage to do something final for the contest (it would be my first contest on the Community Activities, by the way ) but i've managed to throw a couple of thumbs for it You are absolutely right about the variation! I realize now that that would differentiate the plans a lot more. I'll keep that in mind! - i'm not that good with colors... Thanks a lot!!
complete2 - Thank you I went a little oversaturated, but it's contrast i'm worrying about ...

dude this is awesome! Did you get to draw those body world drawings from life?
the only crit i can give, is more like a suggestion really, but maybe you could start to experiment with adding more tone to the background in stead of all the white. That might give you the opportunity to play with lost/found edges and conturs, something that will help your subjects to "pop" out more.

I know you've probably heard this for the thousandth time but your sketches are amazing. Now, I have a question: rendering....how do you do it? Right now, my method is smudging, but I notice you use really small lines? Do you have any tips on rendering?

insanelight - thank you! :D i'm not really that good, but i'm planning to be! Thanks for the encouragement!
babydoll - thanks :) About the rendering, if you get the chance to read this again, stop smudging unless you have a clear purpose for doing that. Rendering with small lines creates texture, and you don't get that dirty :) The main thing is practice - just hatch as much as you can, random shapes, controled shapes, everything... It'll be great soon!
Mawh - Thank you! I'll do even better in the near future :)
redrobot - hehe... thank you, if i'll get an iphone i'll do some

Fantastic art here! I meant to comment yesterday, but didn't have time (gave you 5 stars though). I come back today and there is another update. I am so happy!
I am really liking both your photography and these latest creature designs (especially post 465). They are really original looking--it looks to me like there are plant and insect influences in their designs, do you do studies of these to incorporate into your work? How/what are you thinking while doing these designs (you say you strive for better designs, but can you be more specific)?
Anyhow, sorry I have no constructive criticism, just ass-kissing. I hope you update this frequently!

Andrew Sonea - thanks a lot for the stars! :) I don't have a method, i just imagine them, and i do a lot of sketches, none of them similar, but trying to get rid of the clichés as much as possible, or just trying to incorporate them into some new design.. I’ve graduated from architecture, so de-constructivism as in architecture is something you could have in mind when you’re building characters. Not everything should be stable or the compact and gravitational way that life is build. You have to build your own way into your ideas, nobody can tell you how, they can just suggest…
insanelight - thank you! glad you find these inspiring! :) long way to go tho'
