did this last night, 30 minute pose, prismacolors on 12x18 newsprint, I was trying to give it a subbtle mucha feel to the linework

it's so simple, yet saying so much.

reminds me a bit of that one painting... beat me... plenty grand odalisque by boucher? the pose seems very similar and i know mel ramos once painted a persiflage on it...

At the rate that I go through drawing paper, if I did not use newsprint, I wouldant be able to afford gasoline for my car;)
seriously, newsprint is great, it has a natural tone to it and it comes in great big sizes too,

tell your teacher that I have been figure drawing for 11 years and newsprint it my professional paper of choice.

android, i have a stupid sounding question:
what exactly is newsprint paper? any examples where i am most likely to see some in "its natural environment"?

Newsprint is is Probly the best paper for just about any dry
medium... But it has acid in it , and it breaks down the paper.
Hints why they will not lets us use it at school..

I do not know the exact definition of it, but it is cheap and
wonderfull to draw on!!!!

Portfloio Peices can not be on newsprint because it will not last.

Here is the First Charcoal Peice I ever did,,, I did it on
"NEWSPRINT" because it was my first time doing charcoal..

you bring up a good point about the acid, but hell none of us are going to last forever, paper in general is a very tempoary medium, anything worth keeping I just scan and add the original to a huge pile that is taking up an entire closet in my houre, I personaly have lost alot of respect for original, vs copy , I really dont care what an image is made with printed on or how long it lasts, I am far less patient, I care about how it hits the back of your brain when you see it for the first time, the human mind is my favorite resting place for my art work.,

hey andrew...i love the second one of sue... good god there are so many things i am loving about this drawing i dont know where to begin...
the first thing that hit me about it is the general flow from top right to bottom left - its like a roller coaster... and this movement is echoed all over the place! its enough to drive a person mad. the lines are so confident..i love it when i see this in drawings.

about newsprint... i painted oil on newsprint a few years ago (to the dismay of others) and have them locked away in storage. i get so excited when i think about them rotting in there. i haven't seen them since i put them away and probably won't for another year but i just really like the idea of them as being living things that die too.

That's strange, ODIN SIX. The school must have changed it's mind on paper, because back when I took those classes it was nothing but newsprint.

I think he meant Mucha, as in Alphonse Mucha, one of the greatest artists to have lived. I can see Muchas style in the first figure. Nice Job.

Wow, I wish I had patience to make as much studies as you do. I'm still drawing far too much from my mind. I like the swooshy curved lines on these. Drawing with both dark and bright pencils on mid-tone paper is nice too.

One thing I notice in all your artwork, esp. the cg portraits, is that you make a lot of lines instead of solid 'blocks' of flat color. Sometimes I think there's a bit too many lines but it might be a style preference thing.

PS. I see the little (A) tag thing you mentioned before :)

Mine is a D with 2 extra lines that make an A, there is also a V and I made out of the same shapes. i used to put a dot but that looked goofy. Anyways, andrew's looks like a reversed davi-tag almost ;)

HA! I could be wrong... I'm not sure but i think i've actually got hundreds of studies of that particular model.
You see one of our 'regulars' whose name just happens to be Sue moved up to austin sometime last year.
Yep, that's got to be the same person, She always wore her hair up like that, posed like that, and has the same body shapes/structure.. same hips. Heh heh, funny how after SO MANY life drawings a model gets burned into your mind.
I'll have to dig up some of my Sue drawings and post em!

(s s s stammers slightly, clears throat, take a deep breath) uhm in the first drawing there's something wrong with her lower back i think. It looks like she has one too many vertebrae. Also her face proporiton is a bit flat. The line work in her foot and on the fabric is a bit mechanical too.

Looking at the second drawing, maybe her back is long like that and her face is flatter in real life.

I love the flowing diagonal line created by no.1 and the torso and arms look pretty accurate to me in both drawings.
