1) I like sky's. Everyone likes making shapes out of clouds, especially me. I like that way that it appears to move, but really were probably moving more.

2)Anyway whilst in the National gallery (London) near where some of the Reubens paintings are (up the back for anyone whos aware of the building) I was looking at pictures with sky's. And noticed something that I had also seen in the first room from paintings done by Seurat (I think). Completely different /timesstyles but in particular the skys were similar, and I was wondering why.
They appear to (or do) get darker the closer they are to you. ie the closer to the Horizon the lighter the sky appears. Ive never though about/noticed this before and was wondering if someone could explain why this might happen?

thanks for any help and sorry if this seems a stupid question. :^^:

First of all, to answer your question:
Yes, on a clear day the sky is darkest at the zenith (straight overhead) and gets lighter as it approaches the horizon. This is because you are looking through a thicker layer of atmosphere, which scatters more light.
