Okay, I'm new here and my only thread so far didn't get many replies, but the ones I got were helpful, so here's hoping for another good response.

This is being done entirely in photoshop, its my first full digital painting, do you guy's see any room for improvements so far? I still have to add darker shadows and lighter highlights, and I still have to crispen up the lones/shades a little more, cos the dude's face/eyes will be the focus of the image.

Imagine he is lookinig up almost vertically at you. Rest to come.

It really looks like you did it in pencil, which is cool, I also think though, that it looks like you did it with a really really dull pencil, I think it could be sharpened up a bit. Other than that, good job dood.

Already planning on it.

calm down , ok that's better,

its a bit washed out as you stated, i am wondering about the helmet, what army is he in , if its Russian the helmet is very close to the old gear of the 70s,

if its American , the helmet has a more bowl look to it, from the Korean war onwards the Americans adopted feature from German designers etc such as the neck cover and eye cover crop out front.

i like the shell shock stare, it reminds me of some of the classic Vietnam photos for the early 70s.

keep at it and take it to the end, and learn as you go,

Hey thanks for the comments all, I wasn't so much angry as annoyed, but hey.

Thanks Defcombeta, you seem to know what you're talking about. I'm just doing this piece based on a photo I saw on a stock website, though its completely transformed. I'm making the character based on whatever shards of refference material I can get my hands on, so its kinda all over the show.

Its actually inspired by Band of Brothers, the HBO series, and its the most in-depth digital work I've ever done, so yes. I'm learning all the way man.

the reason its so washed out is because my monitor is on the way out and is really (un-fixably) dark, so it looks fine here at home, but from anywhere else (and to anyone else) its washed out as hell. I'll fix that later.

Thanks again.

I'll show more when I do it.

I could really imagine this being an amazing piece of work, him looking up in a battlefield, with carnage going on around him, totaly dazed by some sort of strange occurance in the sky.

Thanks for the compliment dude, I think though, that he isn't looking at a strange occurance in the sky, but searching for a revelation or some form of spiritual guidance. Shellshock will do that to you.
