I've been a Photoshop fan for years now, but since I saw the nice things people are posting here on these forums I realised that painter8 might be an addition to even boost my individual skill or to enhance my works.

However I think this program isn't a really simple one, I can't seem to find a way to dodge / burn, blur, finger painting tools.
Also in the right menu you can choose the color palette / color mixer. I think this thingy is really cool since you can easily mix your colors with eachother just by placing a new stroke of color over an existing one with a very clean brush (Can't seem to find a similar brush in the brush menu).
The downside is, this way of painting is only ment to mix colors. Now my question is: is there any way to paint the same way as in the color mixer on your sheet (mingling colors instead of placing one layer over another)?

I'm really confused here, that many functions / brushes etc just makes painting harder for me, since I haven't found a setting yet that I like and allow me to fast paint.

Does anyone have tips / usefull links I can investigate? thx :^^:

This site sells Painter 8 Tutorial CD, but also offer some free lessons. The free ones (blue links on the left side) cover basics useful for beginners.

Glad to be of help. In fact, this author also has free lesson on Painter 6 & 7 covering other subjects. Once you become acquainted with Painter 8, you should be able to wade thru the difference in "painter control" and apply the concept:
