Hello.

Just thought I would post to ask a stupid question, flame suit on.

I have the opportunity to go to a local life drawing class, but there is no instructor. As far as I can tell this is the ONLY class within miles of where I am and quite frankly, it's a bit of a journey just to get there. The downside is that there is no instructor and well, I'm a beginner.

It's a 3 hour class where we pay 10 bucks and tip the model a few bucks. The lady on the phone said that the models are usually nude, but not all the time. The class is bi-monthly (every other Thursday). I don't mind drawing a nude model, but I would hate to go with such litte art experience (1 drawing class in college) and look like I'm there just to cop a gaze at some naked chick. I'm sure that anyone looking at my rendition of the model would be less than impressed.

Advice appreciated.

EDIT: After reading my own post, I think I didn't make my question clear. What I really want to know is if it would be worth it to go out of my way and head to this class bi-weekly, even though there is no instructor. Would I learn just as much drawing nude models from photo reference? That is currently what I am doing and I don't feel that I am improving very much

Hi MrFrost.

I'm in Florida.

I didn't know that was how most classes are... I've never been to one. I thought that most classes would have someone walking around to tell people how bad they sucked.. :tihi:

I guess that's too much to ask for for 10 bucks... :^^;:

dont get me wrong....there are usually allot of amazing artists that go....and im sure if you had questions theyd be more than happy to answer them :)
definately worth the 10 bucks imo
Have fun with your life drawings!!! be sure to post em~

to answer your question you added.. YES!!!!!! doesnt matter what kind of experience you have....just go. as the old saying goes practice makes perfect. you'll understand when you go. artists of all different types attend to these classes. drawing from life is always more beneficial than drawing from a 2d reference picture...

Thank you for the advice MrFrost. I must admit that I sorta knew what the answers would be, I guess I just needed a push in the right direction. Then again, that's what these forums are all about eh? :^^:

Thanks again

Go when and where you can ~ find the sessions with the best artist ~ that is the reason you go ~ you learn from watching them!
What you don't want to do is move around a lot ~ that is usually a sign of someone who is there to look rather than draw ~ I eliminate these people fast in my groups ~ there have not been very many most people are there to draw or paint!

Yea, I would definitely go. You'll meet other artists that will expose you to more things in general. Don't be embarassed at your skill level, they've all been there, done that. And the giveaway for someone that's there for a show, is they spend more effort chatting up the models during the breaks than working on their drawing, they don't look at other people's drawings, and they don't show up on the days with male models, or when the model is in costume.

Where are you in Florida anyways?
