I'd have to say it is probably the best fps i've ever played. Single player at least. the multiplayer has so much bad netcode it drives me insane.

I think they're already working on a multiplayer patch aswell.

"Looks good... is it really worth buying?"
No. Looks good but gameplay is very . . . basic. Nothing new.

I think you need a screen of the thing with the two rocket arms, and cyberdemon, and those green plasma throwing demonknight things.
The gameplay is def the most basic in a FPS i've ever played. no crawling, dodging, sneaking, doubjumping, secondfire modes, two hand action, just very basic walk, run shoot jump :)

I played it at my buddies last night accually.
I'm not going to buy it.
the only thing I liked about the game was that there could be someone right next to you or behind you and you won't notice.
untill you turn around and jump a bit out of yuor seat from the surprise.
graphics are... -ok-
farcry has the same if not better graphics.
doom 3 = nothing great, and definatly nothing new.

Graphics OK? Did you see any of those screens? I think it looks completely amazing! Yeah Yeah, its nothing new, its not supposed to be. Its all about the raw action! Its like taking you out of your daily life and dropping you in hell for a while. Thats the whole idea behind it.
Im gonna be gittin it, but I only have a mac and xbox, guess I'll be waiting a while. There even already talking about pushing it back for the xbox...Oh well...sniff sniff... :\
Thanks for posting what some of us wont get to see for a while Davi.

Been there . . . done that . . . back in 1997. It was called Quake. It waas where you played a Space Marine thrown into different medieval and futuristic worlds to battle demons . . . cyborg things . . . ogres with chainsaws . . .etc., etc., etc.
Doom 3, when it boils down to it, is nothing more than a technology demo showing off an awesome technology. It is awesome. It is very, very cool; however, there is absolutely no compelling story. The story is rehashed; it's old; it's tired. Yawn.
Although I will disagree that Farcry is better. Farcry is nice, but it aint Doom3 by a long stretch - "Far From It" is more like it

I imagine thats true, Like I said, I havent played it. But keep in mind, it is a videogame. How important was the story in Galaga or Pac Man? The comparison between movies and games isn't really fair. Maybe an RPG or something like that, but not an action shooter. It all depends on the intent of the game.

Respectfully speaking and without flaming intent, Steve, but that's an absurd comparison. How can you possibly compare yesterdays technology with todays? The old coinops are not the games of today. You're comparing apples to bananas - not fair. The issue here is that ID has pitched D3 as a wondrous singleplayer experience, and I'm here to tell you it aint. It's a tecnology demo. It's purdy, but that's it.

Not fair? Sure it is, because in this case both must adhere to good storytelling. ID's intent was to create something engrossing, and they way to this is that there has to be a compelling story. Remember Zelda? Half Life? Shogo? These games possessed multiple levels of interaction based on characters. D3, in terms of story, isn't even close to those games; there's a bit of interaction here and there with the hiding scientist, but it's not new (Half Life broke that ground). Even Quake 2 had a decent story (although it wasn't exactly new). D3 just doesn't cut it. Don't get me wrong - I do like the game; it does live up to it's uber creepiness, but I honestly don't think it's worth $55.
But don't take my word for it.

Anyone found the game easy ? I finished it after going trough EVERY single nook 'n crany in order to be sure to see everything. (I tend to play these games way too methodically... A hell knight ? No problem ; 5 shotgun shots in the head at close range and then move on.)
There was plenty of ammo and medpacks everywhere in order to be a little walking armory. Pondering on replaying the game on hard...
Davi : :blah: were there many other "hidden" stuff like that id texture ? I wonder if that's an easter egg... or a wink at best. Guess I haven't searched everywhere in the end hehe
Overall I was always waiting for the doom2 map feeling... I'm sure the level designers did their best considering the constraints and making them interesting, something was missing. Perhaps the sheer absurdity in some of doom2 levels that threw you off all the time...
wishing there had been more cyberdemons. what a trendy name :teeth:

Egerie, what mode did you play it on? My friends and I bought the game, and since we had read about the hard modes, we unlocked the Nightmare mode and played it through on that. Everytime you die, the next person in line gets to play :).
Fun as hell like that. But, if you play it by yourself, all the way through, its fun for maybe the first 2 hours.
My advice: don't buy the game, unless you won't miss the $50.
And if you have the game, invite your friends over to play it with you, even if you know the game, everytime you sit down to play you are being thrown in, and your friends have to tell you what just happened. "There was this guy and SHIT went flying! OH MY GOD LOOKOUT!"
Lights off too ;)

No flaming intent taken! :teeth: I dont think thats an absurd comparison, they are both videogames, and having fun is the reason for playing. And even though the graphics may stink and they story may be lame a game can still be fun if the gameplay is fun. And doom 3 is basically a remake of the first doom. Which had simplistic controls by todays compairsons. I will say that a story can make it alot more involving and a good story is always better then a sucky story, but in the case of this game, I don't think its really all that important.

When you see the id thing, push it. Makes you even happyier.
Also, I hate you davi and your high end computer. I had to play everything on low and 640x480. It looks so pretty!
