Hello
I always read that a good composition lead the eye, it guide the viwer in a nice way. But this "rule" has been tested on adults.
What about kids, i think kids don't see the world like adult do. So anyone: an idea ?
I think that pic should be anarchy and many things that light be discovered by a kid devouring it.

The way I understand it, the reason they would test these rules on adults is because they understand the rules of composition, even in it's most basic forms. An adult will be arranging furniture, and they'll say, "Oh....it looks better this way". Even subconciously, they'll recognise that the picture is well set out.
I think kids on the other hand, they pretty much like bright, fun pictures. But this doesn't mean that you can cheat them of a good composition. Read a well illustrated children's book- they don't have random elements all over the show. Even if the picture is of 3 kittens sitting together surrounded by white, how those kittens were arranged will be basic but good composition.
I'm not sure if that really helps- just my thoughts. ^_^

I would say there probably isn't much difference. Kids may like brighter colors more than adults, but they look for order and composition in the world even more so than many adults do. They will probably give the same "this one looks better" response if you showed them 2 images of the same things with different composition.

its a universal thing; its just like perspective and proportion.. its a subconscious thing until you try to recreate it.. somebody figured it out before everyone else could take advantage.. i dont necessarily think thats true about kids liking bright colors more.. think about when you were a kid.. you liked dark moody stuff too, i know i did.. i had no idea why i liked it, other than it looked cool..

I was thinking: there should be some studies about how kids read (unconsciously) a pic. If we understand those things , we can merge it with the classical rules.
was an idea :)

i wouldnt be surprised if the study finds it to be more or less the same

wasnt there a thing in betty edwards book about how kids drawings are naturally balanced. I read somewhere if you give monkeys paint they make balanced compositions too.
