Hear The Cheer ! (http://movies.sidetraked.com/marvelvscap.wmv)
I don't even like fighting games (except for One Must Fall 2097) but this looked like a pretty big deal ! You the fighting games fans, tell me why you like them so much. I'm curious :)

First off, what thay guy did is skillful, and I wish I could see that kinda fight when I play those kinds of games.
Secondly, the satisfaction you get from beating your opponent into the ground is more intense than if you shot them in an FPS from half the map away.
Thirdly, it is an absolute pleasure for me, and obviously for others, to see such a come from behind victory. No matter what game I play, or if I am watching a sporting event, I love to see come from behind victories, because they are what competition is about, and they show that the person, team, or whatever, are really trying. Its just nice to see.
Plus, if I am a fanatic of something, and see something exciting that is very rarely seen, I'd be happy too.
However, I'm not a streetfighter fan. Soul Calibur II all the way!

Soul Calibur II all the way!
I wish you could fight without any weapons. Using fists has more class!

Well, SC 2 has everything. You have elegant fighters like Raphael, you have total tanks like Astaroth, you have an elvis-ninja, a BDSM whips sword babe, a guy called Nightmare, who not only earns a mention becuase of hte name, but happens ot own almost anyone, and you also round it our with a dead pirate, and a ....whatever Voldo is.
Shit, ninjas, pirates, golems, possesed guys with demon sword... The game has everything except fist fight, which I'll forego.

Hrm, the video is mislabeled. That is Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, rather than marvel v.s. cap. A friend of mine was present at Evo 2004, and got to see it in person. There was talk that daigo had sandbagged the match, that he wasn't trying very hard, and that he planned on doing that to Justin Wong to embarrass him. Indeed it is a cool video to watch, but I don't see why Justin Wong threw out a random super.
-edit- theres been tons of talk about this video at the www.InsertCredit.com forums, which I reccomend giving a visit.

that was just so sweet, I remember when I was growing up in abbotsford there was one 711 with Street fighter 2 and it was lined up out the door!
There would be so much tnesion because if you lost you had to go back to the end of the line and wait for another hour to play again, that made 25 cents seem like ALOT of money :blahblah:

One reason so many people enjoy fighting games is because they're almost infinitly replayable. And the more you play the better you get, the more you know. And then taking on challenging players creates a rush that almost no other video game genre can create. I mean in Halo it's BAM and your down. No excitement other than "shoot that guy real fast, crap I'm dead". Fighting games, you get rushed, thrown around, beaten, kicked, slapped, slashed, dashed, diced, sliced, and burned.
And I'm a complete Street Fighter fanatic. Soul Caliber is definitly awesome, but I'd much rather throw down in Street Fighter.

If you guys are interested in 2-d fighters check out www.shoryuken.com . It's a good site and held EVO 2004 with a few other sites.
Alex Outbreak: Wong probably thought Daigo would mess up the parry and die. Daigo's just insane and notorius for crazy comebacks so it didn't pan out.

Have any of you guys tried the 'Onimusha Blade Warriors' game? It's like Soul Calibur II in that you fight only with weapons, but it has some nice twists to it. I like it mainly because you can fight on different levels in the background. It's like a 2D fighter, but you can jump up on the roof of a house in the background and continue fighting. Plus there are a limited number of combos available so the game is easy to master. (And any game that has Megaman as an unlockable character is always a big plus in my book.) :)
If you see it for around $20 I'd recommend getting it.
P.S. I agree that S.C. II is the better fighting game. Just wish it wasn't so damn short. And stay away from the Mortal Kombat series. Absolute crap.

I used to post around a little bit at shoryuken, but I was slowly driven away from it by the general personality of the posters. www.InsertCredit.com has a few people on their forums who are knowledgable about fighting games; plus its a generally cool place to hang around.
