Hi,

My brush doesn't taper anymore, and the sesitivity of the pen seems all wacked. Restarting the program doesn't fix it.

Anyone have this problem, or a know a solution?

Thanks

It'll help if you can be more specific:

Have you installed the Painter 7 Update (patch, making the updated version number 7.1.357)?

Which brush variant or which brush variants (name them exactly including both the brush category name and the brush variant name... for instance, the Pens' Scratchboard Tool or the Airbrushes' Digital Airbrush)?

Have you made any setting adjustments to that brush variant (or to those brush variants if more than one is giving you a problem)?

What tablet and model are you using?

If Wacom, have you downloaded and installed the latest Wacom driver?

Have you tried resetting Brush Tracking? (Edit > Preferences > Brush Tracking)?

Any other details will also be helpful.

thanks,

Sorry for the late reply.

I'm using a camelhair brush, only messing with feature, well, bleed, and opacity options. I'm using an intuos wacom with the latest drivers. I tried the painter7 update, but I didn't do it on a clean install. I tried resetting brush tracking. I'm using windows XP. I got IT to install painter 8 which seems to work properly. Painter 6 doesn't seem to want to install on XP at all.

If you didn't follow the recommended steps when installing the Painter 7 Update, you can expect to have problems.

Here are the steps you'll need to follow exactly:

1. Close Painter 7 and other programs.

2. Move any files you created into a new backup folder outside of the Painter 7 folders.

3. Uninstall Painter 7.

4. Manually delete any remaining Painter 7 folders and files.

5. Reboot.

6. Install Painter 7. If you're going to install the Painter 7 Update, don't open Painter 7 even one time.

7. Install the Painter 7 Update.

8. Reboot.

9. Launch Painter 7.1.357 (the updated version number with the Painter 7 Update installed).

After you've followed all of the above listed steps:

I assume that you're using the Painter 7 Brushes' Round Camelhair variant. In it's default state, Size is expressed by Pressure.

Since you've reinstalled Painter 7 and installed the Painter 7 Update, all of the default Painter Brushes brush library's variants should be in their default state.

Open a large white Canvas and test the Brushes' Round Camelhair variant again to see if you're getting varying brushstroke width in response to pressure.

If not, use Edit > Preferences > Brush Tracking to set your normal hand pressure, then test the brush variant again.

If that doesn't fix the problem, it's likely something to do with the Wacom Tablet Properties control panel settings or the Wacom driver you've installed.

I expect the problem will be solved by Uninstalling Painter 7, reinstalling Painter 7, and installing the Painter 7 Update following the steps listed above.. exactly.

If not, contact Wacom Tech Support to see if they can help.

I currently have the following Painter versions installed and running on WinXP Home SP1, each program installed in its own folder below C:/Program Files/.....:

Fractal Design Painter 5.0.3 (running in compatibility mode with Windows 98/Windows Me)

Metacreations Painter Classic 1

Corel Painter 6.1 (running in compatibility mode with Windows 98/Windows Me)

Corel Painter 7.1.357 (running in compatibility mode with Windows 98/Windows Me)

procreate Painter Classic 2

Corel Painter 8.1

To set the compatibility mode for the versions you think might need this:

Highlight the appropriate Painter version .EXE file, right click and choose Properties, click the Compatibility tab, check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", choose Windows 98/Windows Me from the drop down list, and click the OK button.

Good luck,

You're most welcome, Ironfinger. I hope you get the problem solved quickly. Painter's so fun to use, especially when we can make our brushstrokes the way we want them.
