Yea.. I have been hearing that a lot at work lately.. Everyone seems be to enjoying the looks of the colored paper. I like it myself, but haven't tried any yet.. Course this little drawing really makes it hard for me to deny myself from getting any next time I am at the art store.

Yeah, the nice thing about a toned background is that you can work both light and dark from the paper ground. On white paper you have to work a lot to get a consistent gray tone, but on paper like this, you can work fast, by just putting in hightlights and shadows.

No doubt Pigeon, not too mention the classical feel of colored paper.
One trick, when you go to most better art stores to buy the nicer paper by the sheet like that they wrap it with a brown wrapping paper. That brown wrapping paper I've found is great for life drawing. Not only is it cheap (10 cents a yard) but its got a good tooth for chalks and charcoals. I've got a friend who would buy like 5 dollars worth and then cut it down and hand craft large sketchbooks out of it. Great stuff:D

Yes when your paper is the overall midtone of your picture it really brings it to life doesnt it. Great pic!

I have found recently that if you just cut up the brown paper bags from your local grocery store it provides a similar surface.
best of all its free.:crosseyed

Very nice.... The paper rules. What medium did you use on it... pencil, pastel, chalk, other?
Thanks!

I love mid-toned paper too. I just picked up some nice Bienfang pads with assorted colors to try and figure out which colors I like. I'm finding it hard to find pads or packs with all one color, though. I think Borden & Riley (#410) is a nice medium grey that you can get in different sizes, but I'm having trouble locating any.

blind and everyone i suppose.
if you want to find a large quantity of toned papers, it is good to find a paper company on line or something where you can order it. Surprisingly enough, it is pretty cheap. It is impossible to find good papers in the art store where i live so i always have to get my dad to order some fore me since he owns a printing business. try looking up fox river papers or mac papers or something like that. I am sure you will be able to find some really cools stuff
