"Wow! That alien, like, totally tripped him! And the predator was all, like, wtf?"
"Yeah but then the predator grabbed they alien by the foot and swung him around in circles! That was sweet!"

Yup, I had my doubts indeed as soon as I saw pg-13 rating. Then I thought, there would most likely be preds gettin tore up instead of humans. But recently I too saw the new footage and my jaw dropped. I'm sure this movie is gonna be badass regardless of its rating :O .

I lost it in my pants when I saw the most recent trailer and read the review(one that didn't give anything away) The scene in the trailer when like a thousand aliens are running at some preds made my lose it in my pants. It has not been returned since. I intend on seeing avp as soon as I possibly can. I played the games, even read one of the comics and they were awesome.

i'm for sure gonna see it,but i miss the good old "sneak and stunn" alien movies.i've played the game(avp2) and i thought it was great.still i don't like predator half as much as alien(though i haven't seen the predator film yet).well, this thing now looks like a whole lot of action, but as i said,i miss the silent creeping death these days.it's all about action,no story, and visuals these days.plus they're too fast paced somehow.
anyways,i'm gonna see it.i love alien.

Alien (1979)- Absolute masterpiece of a movie. Incredably original, simple yet effective plot, great visual style, scary on a psychological level, compelling protagonist, best (arguably) creature design in the history of film.
Aliens (1986)- Different from the original but great in it's own way. Expands on the premise of the original film by creating a completely different situation. Great art direction. Again, great creatures.
Alien3 (1992)- A vastly different deviation from the second film. Darker atmosphere. Great dirrecting and acting but too much studio influence leading to a comprimised final product. Cool animal-like interpretation of the first alien creature. Everyone meant well and it was at least decent.
Alien Resurrection (1997)- Ripley's 1,000,000,000 years old, has super human strength and was brought back from the dead with the alien through the miracle of bad writing. Bad melodramatic acting. Exagurated creatures, slime and gore (could go either way there). Mostly lame, but hey, it's an alien movie and that counts for something.
AVP (2004)- :nohope:  The emoticons say it all.

I just find it ridiculous that they have to pit something so high-tech (predator) vs something so low-tech (alien). Seems like the predators have to forego their technology and start fighting hand-to-hand with the aliens so that they can lose to them. All for the sake of geekdom (or more accurately, the money from geekdom) :nohope:

That fight scene looked kinda weak...
Oh, and the music sucks. If they replace that with another score that matches the fight better, it would come off as looking about 10 times cooler.
I also think some better editing could have been used to hide the fact that the Pred is a guy in a thick rubber suit...

Aliens don't get fooled by cloak so it would only make sense that the preds can infiltrate more effectively than say...a human. Read a review(I read one at msn) and you'll understand exactly WHY the preds aren't exactly surprised by fighting the aliens. Its actually not a bad plot line in a nutshell. I'm just hoping for not SUCH a big let down. :tihi:

after reading this review and having decided to go just to see if it really is that crappy i will now go and play AvP 2 to get a better result than this film might have on my eyes. :nohope:

a bit spoiler-iffic:
Wow, after having prepped for a week before hand, spending over 30 dollars total to rent each alien and both predator movies to get pumped up for AvP (yah, I don't have much of a life :)), and then another 9.50 for the midnight showing, I feel SEVERELY JIPPED!
Some of the movie was nice, it had a very interesting plot and the whole back story was very interesting. But then the movie decided to drift towards the uninteresting, and just became frustrating. I don't understand why there wasnt more focus on the predators hunting down aliens and battling aliens without their guns, resulting in some fun fights (possibly even something more interesting than a 1v1?). There just wasn't enough of that.....I DONT GET IT!
And why was that predator such a pansy...what the fuck kind of predator would let Love & Basketball chick boss him around without serving her up a dish of huge arm blades to the neck?
(this only for people who have seen the movie: how much cooler would it have been if the girl wasnt in the movie? If the predator had just ripped the alien's head off and used it as a shield for himself (I love that idea haha), and gone through the rest of the movie as a lone ranger...earth's unlikely hero..?)

I don't understand why directors are afraid of making totally mindless action movies. Heck, the whole point of AVP is mindless aliena monster action anyways, so you might as well oblige the audiences with kickass fights instead of messing it up with inept storytelling.
And I can now safely say "I told you so" to everyone who thought this movie might be good.

Saw the movie, as expected it was appropriately cheesy:
Hardcore Alien/Preditor fans be weary for the legacy isn't shown much respect....
They try and cramm a lot of concepts into such a short film, but it's fun and keeps things most accurate to the Alien universe.
It was fun, and for what it's worth (my $) it was just plain nice to see a superbly animated Queen kick some ass.
QUESTION: (spoiler) for hardcore Alien nerds...
Bishop Wayland (the real one) made an appearance in Alien 3, to convince Ripley that they should keep the Alien Queen inside her... He was cut, and started to bleed showing that he was the real deal (not another droid) ....
Bishop Wayland is in AVP and he is killed...
As history has revealed, each new alien flick has its share of fully dilated plot holes..

I was under the impression the Bishop Wayland in Alien3 was like Bishop Wayland XVI, or whatever. Or at least that was the idea behind having a Bishop Wayland in AVP *shrug*

I watched and actually enjoyed it. Sure it was scary at all but it was a good action movie! The end was so so..

I think that this particuar alien venture was meant to attract a newer, younger audience than the alien series has now. The younger generation of alien fans (at the present) are fans because they are afficionadoes of sci-fi and/or horror, or are fans of Giger's original conceptual work. These groups comprise a far smaller part of the mainstream public than I'm sure the production company would like to have. Thus, they have created a watered down version with AVP.
All I can say though is that I hope the sequel is rated R, with all the content accompanying such a rating.
Given that this has become a spoiler thread, may I say that the quick shot of the hybrid at the end makes for some really interesting speculation as to what will come next.

I dunno, i liked the movie, for the final fight scenes, but the weakness of the first two preds was stupid. and another thing, why would the preds use weapons that get melted by alien blood? it seemed like the preds wernt ready for the alien whup ass handed to them. but as i said, the final fight was cool. plot wise, the movie lacked, as the love and basketball chick was irratating, and it took so long for fights. the end scene is sortof a rip from an avp comic i read, with the pred dying at the end and marking the woman. ah well, it was worth it just to see the alien queen in all her glory. <3

it was entertaining, but it could have been so much better! It should have been better than that- they've been working on this movie for what a decade now? It took the whole movie for it to get good and then it ended.

Here's my thoughts on AVP: Spoiler if you didn't see this...
The action in this movie in places was refreshing. The coolness of the look of the predator and the aliens was great. The character development, was complete ass. And there were too many things that weren't realistic at all. This movie almost seemed like a cool action comedy rather than a hardcore movie like Alien, Aliens, ALien 3 and Predator 1 and 2 were. It seems like ever since Alien 4, story, characters, and realism doesn't seem to matter anymore.
In AVP for example, how is it that a frightened woman can kill a huge evil alien
so easily, by herself, and not get one drop of acid on her? The alien is concidered smart when attacking prey, yet, this one particularly runs directly into the predators staff that the woman holds in fear? Yet, the first two predators have an extremely difficult time beating the aliens and get killed off with ease? More importantly, the acid doesn't gush out all over the girl after she stab the alien directly through it's body? Wow.
How come the predators of the great past who lived with humans, had the same outfits and space ships as those in the present in this movie? Don't the predators evolve at all? For them not to evolve even an little is highly unlikley.
At the end, the woman is in the middle of antartica, and is outside, and isn't even cold, at all? It's so cold there and not one scene of her desperately trying to warm herself? The whole battle of her versus the Queen would be much more different if that was shown.
The characters in the beginning, we didn't even get to know the crew really before they died. Some of those characters during there moment of death, I didn't even regonize, or new who they were. In Alien, Aliens, and other movies, you at least got to build some sort of familiarity with the characters who died, so that it was a stronger impact when they did die. And even though this movie is about Aliens vs Predator, the humans are character and play an important role. If the humans aren't gonna have any real character developenment, then it's better they not talk at all and not have any real story other than their history with the Predators, and the purpose of teh chest busters. All that other stuff should have been cut.
Sammy - I saw the same thing about Bishop. It really doesn't make any sense how he dies in this movie, but it's the same Bishop in Alien 3, unless that is Bishop the 16th or something in Alien 3, if it is, it wasn't very appearant.
And how long does it take for the chest burster to burst? In this movie, it seems it only takes a few moments for the birth of the chest burster, all the way to it's full growth.
But with all that said, the movie looked cool, it was refreshing to see the predator and aliens on screen again, especially battling each other. This movie in my opinion is just something not to take too serously, which, the other movies were more serious and believable. This is more of a 'fun' movie.
