I've started my Offroad Concept Vehicle prototype class.. and I couldn't be more excited... we're gonna design and build 2 concept vehicles...
I did these sketches on the first class... technically I shouldn't be doin' them 'cause I haven't even started my research yet.. but I got excited... expect more sketches to be posted untill we finalize out the design .. and come this summer I'll post up photos of the our actual vehicles.. help me out in any ways you can!... give ideas on things you would want to ride.. and what is ripe in the market (Urban electric, offroad hunting, etc.)

thanx guys

Dude i know how you feel. Hardly anyone replies to the new guys. I think the vehicle designs are awesome, they inspire me to get better at them myself. Keep it up. One critique btw, since you wanted one, is that some of the vehicles seem tilted or uneven. But then again, they are sketches. Great job overall.

Something that might help out:

I've noticed that the wheel bases on all your concepts are the same. In other words...for all of the designs...they each have four wheels and are similar (in placement) to a golf cart or just a regular passenger vehicle. Perhaps, to get your brain juices flowing, make some with 6 wheels...or some with three...Try out really weird designs...even if you won't be able to use them in real life...they may lead you to a more unique design. Sometimes it helps to find an object around your house and just pick it up...look at it and use that shape in your design. So say you pick up a banana...you don't have to make a "banana" car heheh...but maybe make a really long and slender design. Hope that helps. These look awesome.

hey yeah, what about one with the normal two wheels on one side and one big ass wheel on the other? it would look cool the way im imagining it, if i could draw vehicles at all id try it myself

Thanx for the complements and good info!
yea.. my vehicles are very tilted and uneven... I'm workin on ways to fix that while still tryin' to be quick and sketchy... I need to get a little ruler to fit in my sketchbood :)

Good call with the different wheel bases! We are building our forms off striped golf carts ... we might modify the engines.. but they will basically be what I have here..
but in our research we've looked at everything from boats to motorcycles.. why not take my sketches a little further to discover some forms... thanx guys.. I got's plenty more stuff to post so I'll have some up soon

speakin' of industrial design... I'm workin' on a Mouse and "Keyboard" setup.. for computer first person shooters that I'll put up soon........ anyone that plays first person shooters should look at it and give me feedback..

thanx

I like the designs alot. I think my favorite in some ways is the first pic with the "cow horns" on it. Maybe explore that idea less literally? It seems like it would be something out in the desert, possibly in some kind of SciFi-like setting?

I think they all look like the right proportions, but try doing some with the "draw-through" technique that Scott Robertson does (drawthrough.com). Of course at this stage they are just exploratory sketches so it's not that big a deal.

Keep posting!

Heyman, I like the last one on the second post.. its got a nice dune buggy feel to it:)

Ive been lookin into industrial design courses myself.. but cant seem to find anything suiting me anywhere close to where I live :(

oh well. keep fightin at it.. lookin cool!

Your drawing are nice, but first thing: what are the foundations? Always is like that: shape goes out with function. If the outside design is fine, but the function fakes: it`s not a good DESIGN.
For example: If you`re designing a car for a family, you wont do a big-foot car with three wheels.
Tell us: what is the purpose of this vehicle?

BTW: I think that You will handle with the shape, think about the foundations first (the shape will go out by itself).

Good call Yaseck , you're absolutely right

form should always follow function... unfortunately enough we haven't narrowed down the audience or demographic of the people.. much less the function of the vehicle.. we're still bouncing that around...
that's why I posted this.. my quetion is this:

if you were given a small vehicle, what would it be and how would you use it? (in cities, for fun, to run over squirls, etc.)

These are great. They get better as you scroll down. Whats with the horns on the first one? I can see that car come out during half-time at a football game.
Sammy, can you do me a favor and go to the "art schools and education" part of this website and tell me what you think of Scad? Thanks and keep up the good work.:)

Thanx for all the help guys... I gotta turn my first sketches in tomorrow, sorry no "far-out" stuff was done, we had to do Utilitarian vehicles .. and just plain practice how to draw them.. and I have to say it's much easyer drawing curvy vehicles than sharp edged construction vehicles...

but I promise some creative stuff in the future.. and I'll play with some shapes!
