I'd just like to ask everyone to help celebrate the 1st birthday of my now one year old computer I built in order to play half-life 2. Actually a few people I know are celebrating the same thing around the office haha.

I hope it's going to be as good/fun as it looks =).

Twas sorta my thought too, I bought a used athlon 1700 and had the money for a 9800 ATI card, Half Life2 never came out & I never bought the 9800 yet.

Be glad you didn't buy the 9800, the 800XT is out...

I'm gonna say yes.

I have a XP2600 which is less than yours and I have a slower video card than yours TI4200 and same amount of ram and I was able to run doom3 in high settings on 800x600 with no problem. From what I have read so far HL2 won't be as taxing on the system and since you have a better setup than me I'd say you should be able to run it fine. Probably not max everything with AA on though...

By accounts that I have heard it is less intensive to run than Doom III. I'm still hoping mine will work.

it should run on everything down to direct-x 7 video cards, but the quality of the graphics won't be so hot :)

seeing as this seems to sort of vaguely be turning into a hardware discussion...which would be better, a Radeon 9600XT 256MB onboard or a 9800Pro 128MB?

I can't really afford the 9800Pro with 256MB...well, I could if newegg.com shipped to new zealand >:{ everthing over here is like $200 more expensive than if I could buy from the US >:|

From what I first recall, HL2 was suppose to even run on a tnt card and a 777 mhz pc. I still say that is why HL was also so popular, it ran on most all old machines. I am looking fwd to HL2 more than Doom

IF anyone's bought an ATI card within the past year or so...and you got a free HL2 offer, you can log onto Steam and download Counterstrike: Source (cs with the hl2 engine. awesome physics and everything...)

I won't be hl2ing it up until christmas. Distractions during school must be eliminated.
