Hi,
If you own any Painter version from 4 through 7 or Painter Classic versions 1 or 2, or own Photoshop, I believe you're eligible for upgrade pricing to Painter 8:
Painter 8 Upgrade - On the Corel Site (http://store.corel.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&mpe_id=10052&jspStoreDir=FashionFlow&intv_id=10053&partNumber=OL_PF08&evtype=CpgnClick&catalogId=10001&ddkey=ClickInfo)
The Corel site price is quite a bit lower than what Amazon has posted on the page linked above, by at least $100 U.S. lower than Amazon's price, and even lower if you download the software from Corel's site.

Im looking to get Painter 8 but is the student version worth getting?
Id rather pay as little as possible but dont want to get screwed over with a highly inferior program (compared to the full version). So is saving worth waiting (with no job that could take months)!
toodles.

Hi acuna,
I believe the academic version is the same as the normal Painter 8 software except that you can't use it for commercial work.
Your best bet, though, is to contact Corel Customer Service to ask them.

I am VERY NEW to this stuff and I am getting ready to go out and purchase a whole bunch of new stuff.
My question is this...
Is this $250.00 Painter 8 the same thing that is being used by some of the artists on this Forum.
For example is SPARTH, ANDRIOD, PUDDNHEAD, Aleski and Grendel, and a few other artists that frequently post on this forum using the same painter 8 that I can buy off the street or are their programs enhanced with patches and modules?
It seems somewhere that I heard these programs cost around $1000.00.
Can you do comic book cover type art with painter 8?
Any thanks in advance for your comments

Corel Painter 8 has never cost $1,000.
The Corel Painter 8 you see on the Corel site is the Corel Painter 8 all of us who own it use.
The Painter 8.1 patch is a free download from the Corel FTP server and anyone can download it and install it with their Painter 8 software.
If you're eligible for upgrade pricing, it costs less than the full price for those who are buying Painter for the first time and/or don't own Photoshop to make them eligible for upgrade pricing.
Check the link I provided above, or contact Corel Customer Service if you want to learn more.

Do you own a Wacom? My Intuos came with a version of Painter Classic, which qualifies for the upgrade. Also, Wacom may have a discount on the upgrade for Wacom owners.
