Ok so it has been entirely to long since i have done any kind of figure work, mainly b/c i have been working alot for the past 5 mo nths to get money so i can move across the country and attend Art Center. YAY! but that bad part is that my figure drawing skills have diminished severly i feel so down about it but i am determined to get back on track before first term starts...

i am actually looking for help from people here at ConceptArt! i know there is alot of great artist here who can just prod and poke me to help get me back on the right track! I thank all of you who do help me. i greatly appreciated it!

____
so basically i am starting over working from the basics and the getting more complex building on top of what i have learned and refreshing what i have forgotten :( i am going to try and atleast do 3 - 4 hours of figure work and studies a day... sadly most of it wont be from a figure but i am going to try and draw from life and masters as much as possible. ok enough talk!

*Shrug* you seem to be on the right track to me. There are certainly things you can work on, more fluidity in gesture, "fast, loose, long lines" as one of the professors at AC says. I'm by no means an authority on figure drawing but from what I've gathered in my inane stumbling uphill is that a good lay-in helps. Go from the large forms to the smaller, the hierarchy, as another of my professors called it. You can go from the head first, that can help set up proportion, but definitely after that hit the rib cage and work out from that. It's fine if you set up the gesture first, but don't noodle with that too much, you want that long and loose, then a good lay-in, then onto anatomy, that's what works, or used to work, for me. At the moment I'm in a bit of a slump myself! Maybe you're dealing with fast poses, that could be why I don't see a solid anchor of a lay-in, but if that's the case, then definitely work on loosening up and drawing from the shoulder. I learned at Pratt that drawing with the non-dominant hand can help a good deal. Switching back and forth creates some interesting results. At AC though they are going to stress the lay-in and proportion at first, and then move on to gesture. I don't really think you are on the wrong track; you just need to get some mileage. You'll get plenty of that here with class and the workshops. There are always resources here to get you better at figure drawing. Plech, I need to utilize some of those resources myself! Anyway, you're on your way, so don't fret about the quality right now, I've seen worse at Art Center that's for certain, just keep drawing, it will come back.

Some more work for today, i am going to draw more tonight as well :) again i appreciate any and all help or advice you might have and crits are more the welcome!

Helium - thanks for you commenst and thoughts, i think i have been noodling with the gesture to much lately... i am trying to be productive and not keep redrawing same lines over and over. i think once i get the feeling back and become more comfortable again iw ill be producing better work... well better for me anyways. again thanks a bunch i appreciate it.

Hey buddy, good to see you posting again. I know it's tough (at least for me) to get back in the flow of life drawing after you haven't done it for a while. These are looking pretty good though, don't really have much to add to Helium's suggestions, that's good advice. Good luck in ACCD.
