I love Jazz!

I just got backfrom a Herbie Hancock show and I have a spring in my step and a smile on my face. I think he is touring the US supporting a new album, celebrating the work of Miles Davis and John Coltrain. If he comes through your city, be sure to see this show!

Yeah.. I go for the crazy Jazz myself. Fusion mostly. Mid to late Miles, Return to Forever, Mahavishnu, Weather Report and the like. Although there is a lot of the stuff form the 40's and 50's that I really enjoy too.. Charly Parker, Monk, Brubeck, etc. Love those crazy sounds.

Music is another planet! (can't remember who I am quoting there but I'll still quote them).

A guy sitting next to me was saying that a lot of what they played tonight was on this CD (at least I think it was this CD.. LOL!). Going to have to get it tomorrow.

Dude, jazz is awesome. I never appreciated jazz until I started playing bass and one of my friends got me into jazz and funk, said it would help me out. Man, there's alot in those old tunes that people just don't appreciate. Jaco Pastorious, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller...There's so much feeling in their playing. You just don't get that from popular music.

I've seen Victor play a few times and always have been blown away. That guy could just sit on stage with his base all by himself and play and you'd still have an incredible show. Don't get me wrong, love Bela, but good god, Victor can play..

i saw bella fleck once. wooten is sick. i play bass aswell and he really blew me away. im not really in to that bass style as much though. im more into creative composition than flash. i do really like jaco. his solo stuff is great.
if you ever get a chance to see a band called "Estradasphere",, SEE THEM! they are the most impressive band you will EVER see live. they range from beautifully melodic and complicated jazz to math metal,, and they even do some origional 8 bit NES compositions. it sounds crazy but they pull it off perfectly. there jazz stuff reminds me of bella fleck a bit. there cd's are a bit hard to find though. go to there web page,, www.estradasphere.com

I like jazz too!

I had a period when I listened mostly to jazz, although I don't usually limit myself to one genre of music.

I have a lot of different types of jazz in my collection.

Pretty much all of the great artists I think.
Some of the people you've mentioned, like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and later ones like Marcus Miller, and i have a couple of collection CD's with lots of the old masters.
I have anything from swing jazz to fushion jazz.

Been a while since I listened to them last though. Maybe I should do that now. :)

Agharta!! Whenever I'm in a music store I look for that album and can never seem to find it. Ever check out Tribute to Jack Johnson or Bitches Brew? Bitches Brew is amazing, especially from an editing standpoint. I read about all the cutting and pasting they did for that album in Jazz Times awhile back. Damn...

My little bro is going to school for jazz studies (bass), and the drummer in his combo jams with the Wooten bros every week in Nashville. They do this kind of funk/porno jam thing, it's like Parliament with more porno.

Thanks to my bro, I've really been listenting to a ton of jazz. Every time he comes home he tells me about 30 new albums he's discovered.

Anyone know of any sites or P2P clients like Napster, but for jazz?

Hi BadMange... yeah, I had trouble finding Agharta too, so my old roommate ripped it to some MP3's for me. Great stuff. You could try Shareaza (http://www.shareaza.com/) for a P2P client. It's like Kazaa, but without all the spyware adware crap they stick in. I've never had much luck with P2P's though.

Bitches Brew has got to be one of the best works ever. They have released a resampled studio version (actually, it's a couple years old) and now I love those sessions even more. I highly recommend getting the complete studio sessions if you love this album like I do.. It's a little expensive but it comes with four CDs and I think it is worth every penny.

I also recently picked up a live John McLaughlin CD (Heart of the Matter? It was recorded in Paris anyways. 1998, I think) and would also recommend that. I saw him perform on the same tour and it was an incredible show.

Also picked Herbie's Tribute to Miles/Coltrain album.. good stuff. Although I do think it was better music when I saw them live myself.

And.. I got a Keith Jarret album too. He is a great...

Been CD shopping (and here you thought nobody did that anymore ;) I also use Kazaa for P2P stuff but Jazz is so hard to find! I was having some problems with KazaaLite so I uninstalled it but couldn't find a download again.. I figured they stopped supporting it. I'll have to check out you link. Never tried Shareaza. Have to do that too).
