Hello all, just sketched this guy...took about half an hour trying to think of something to sketch and half hour drawing. Not sure about the shield...do battle trolls have shields?? Anyhow, thought I'd post him for crits before I do the final render. Cheers

He's a tad off balance. With the weight of his right side and the fact he is resting some weight on the left, he looks to be in danger of falling over backwards. The raised toes of his left foot accentuate the feeling.

The resting club is at odds with the raised shield. If he were standing with both relaxed, it would match more with his whole look.

Not bad, though.

Thanks Dogfood, I had made him as though he'd just been alerted and lifted his sheld but your right...he should either have a full action stance or fully relaxed. Cheers for the crit, back to the drawing board : )

Much better. I like the size of the feet and how the pick puts down another similar shape there. The legs seem to be a little like stilts coming up the support that great big belly ("ge' in ma bellay!") and he has no butt. There's also a little conflict between the big chin and shoulder guard.

It's looking good, though.

I really like how you rendered his face and his weapon. Youre second shot at this worked out well. I would suggest making him look more "unique". Give him something that we wouldnt expect to see like bizzare armour or an original looking weapon. I know this was a quicky but get imaginative with this guy cause youre rendering style is good.

I like it. There's some good texture going on and there is a nice luminesance in the skin making him look less evil. Whenever I loook at the little skulls on the boots, I think about fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror.
It's an unfortuante coincidence that his "modesty protector" ends right where his left boot top ends, making it look like the boot is in front of the leather skirt. Also, the far arm probably shouldn't be quite as bright as the near one, what with the light placement and all.
Nice.

Cool, thanks heaps for your input Dogfood. I really need to think more about what I'm painting.

Now that I think about it cateaic, this guy does look a little neat and tidy. I will definately put more imagination into my next character.

Thanks guys

The boots, weapon and armguards are really well rendered in my opinion. I'd probably get rid of the skulls hanging off the boot and I agree with dogfood about where his loin cloth ends.
Another suggestion. The belly and chest seem to be the weakest parts right now. Maybe if you make the belly rolling over the buckle and chain belt a little bit, it will add to the form. Plus the shirt is small and closely following the curve of the chest, so you could emphasize how small the shirt is and how big he is by having his stomach popping out under the shirt more by adding a highlight on the belly where it meets the shirt. If you think of the curve where his shirt doesn't cover his belly, as an ellipse, you'll see it's just shooting off to the right and not curving around the form. His far titty seems pretty large but the close one isn't. You might want to make that near side he-breast enveloping the shoulder strap more.
