View Full Version : How do I get my comic book script published?

I'm an unpublished writer and I'm at an impasse, and I was hoping someone on this wonderful forum could help me out.

I wrote this script for a comic book (I'm cannot draw), and I don't know how to get it published. It's out-of-this-world good, nothing like it around, & I refuse to put it into the hands of a minor artist. I did an extensive search on the internet, and the only publishing houses I could find that are publishing work somewhat like what I created and hire illustrators like the kind my script demands are DC Comic's Vertigo and maybe idw Publishing.

Problem is, DC Comic's has a nigh-impossible submission policy for newbees (I have to actually take a flight over to one of their 'conventions', where I cannot be even guaranteed that a representative will even look at my script), and idw Publishing hasn't been accepting submissions for over a year.

I've also tried writing directly to my dream illustrator, a man who has worked with Vertigo. He expressed interest in my script's concept, but apparently he can't say yes or no, until I've got a publisher to back him up economically.

So, does anyone have some suggestion on how I can get this script published? Maybe some of you have worked in the comic book industry, and could help?

Thank you

I suggest going to the forums over at Digitalwebbing.com (http://www.digitalwebbing.com) ... they're all comic freaks over ther. Also, if you're lucky you might be able to get an artist interested in your script and just work for royalties.

Good luck.

I don't know if you are interested in Dark Horse but they seem pretty open to submissions (personally, I realy like a lot of the stories/artwork they publish.. Vertigo and Darkhorse consistently put out some of the best comics IMO):

http://www.darkhorse.com/company/submissions.php

.. Crossgen used to have a side-company that took submissions and publish stories unrelated to their universe (I think most standard CrossGen comics share a related world) but I couldn't find any current info. Maybe it's not around anymore? Ahh well, to be honest, most of their artwork kind of bores me.

Well, I am by no means a professional.. and I am probably writing things you already know.. but I wish for your success :rendered:

Crossgen has suspended all operations and gone into Chapter 11. :dead:

Wow, Crossgen has filed Chapter 11? I thought their comics were fairly popular. Too bad.

i second that you probably got better chanches with the publishers with some art

b.t.w. i think Image Central (http://www.imagecomics.com/) always takes submissions (http://www.imagecomics.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?main=about&sub1=submissions)

good luck

Thank you everyone who has posted. I was not aware of Digitalwebbing; and though I had considered Darkhorse, for some reason that 'newrecruits' page had escaped me! The other remarks have been helpful to. I'm a writer - but I understand little about the buisness behind publishing, and any tips you can give me are very much appreciated.

If anybody has more suggestions, feel free to share them.

Thank you.
