I "acquired" some information from a friend - don't know if this is true, but...
anyways, if anyone wants a huge spoiler, respond to this thread.

I know, I know. this came a little too late.

again, I don't know if this information is fact or just a rumor, but...

The "creatures" in the woods wearing red hoods are werewolves. The "truce" was between the village and werewolves - people who were banished from the village. Why? Perhaps some terrible dark secret? If they agreed to stay away from the town, in return, the villagers would not bother them. Over time, the dark and mysterious history and past of the village fades and is replaced by myth, superstition and fear. No one knows what these "things" are anymore. All they know is that "we don't venture into the woods and they don't come to our village. That is how it's always been." And they base their entire lives around this. The village is overrun by fear, and this is the emphasis of the film. Shyamalan wanted to do a werewolf movie with a "little red riding hood" twist to it (which is why he gave the werewolves or "creatures" red hoods). What's the big surprise ending or "twist"? Many of the "creatures" now breaking the truce and terrorizing the village are people who still live IN the village... maybe some of the main characters? What motives or reasons could they have for breaking the "truce"? The main thing to look for in the film will be the relationships the people in the village have with one another and the issues involved in the community...

It's okay...I dont know about ROCKS!

(spoiler down there  )

The thing that disappointed me was that its totally what you dont expect. Which is sort of cool. But its like the movies advertised as this suspenseful, possible horror film and its not. It's like if you see the previews to some teeny bopper movie and what you end up getting is a intense action movie w/ explosions and then you're like huh? :(

It is his movie and he gets to choose whatever he wants to do to it, but I would have preferred he go in the same route of previous movies.

Oh yeah, go see the movie, its still a good movie but not as cool as his other films imo.

I thought it was pretty suspenseful, it just wasn't a halloween or scream type of horror movie... more like twilight zone, which is cooler, I think. I'd much rather care about the characters and story than just wait for everyone to be knifed by a guy in a mask. But that's just me.

Actually what did happen in the film was what I completely expected yet... I didn't WANT that.

Personally your werewolf idea sounds much much cooler than the "twists" in that movie.

The 'twist' in the movie is pretty silly... and just stated it sounds stupid...

but, he eased into it really nicely... to the point that there was no 'twist' just a 'fading into'... which was cool

he managed to make the silly rather acceptable, and it was susspensfull the whole damn way..

pluss, I really like the droll humor in his movies
