Hi guys,
I was looking for some darker...film noir type master's paintings. Stuff that is darker and has more muted colors. Can anyone point me toward some painters who embodied that style...or even some specific paintings.
Thanks.

Thanks Davi...rembrandt, of course, is a genius and a master of that type of lighting but I think I am looking for something a little different. I can't put my finger on it. Not exactly like Sargent but something more in that direction...thanks.

I'm by no means a pro on art history, but you might check out the Romanticism movement and artists like:
Decamps (http://www.artrenewal.com/asp/database/art.asp?aid=2249)
some of Doré's (http://www.artrenewal.com/asp/database/art.asp?aid=95) work could be good too
Friedrich (http://www.artrenewal.com/asp/database/art.asp?aid=179) is one of my faves
Géricault (http://www.artrenewal.com/asp/database/art.asp?aid=199) very cheerful lad
I guess the Deutch Renaissance is also a good resource as davi pointed out. lalalaaa :)

Thanks so much egerie...a couple of those pieces are bulls eye for what I was looking for. Friedrich is awesome too...I can see why he is one of your favorites. Thanks for the help bro! Thanks too Davi!
