I wonder why they canned "Nitro" as a name.

What do you guys think of it's looks ? Doesn't looks near as plasticy as the E3 version.. But still clunky. More "heavy duty" I guess ?

it looks much much better but its still kinda clunky looking when standing next to the PSP. The games will sell the ds. The duel screens should make for some cool games, and the voice recognition could be cool to.

Much better indeed :} . This is buyable. Some clunkiness is fine if it means a long MTBF.

"The retooled Nintendo DS features a thinner, black base and an angular platinum flip-top cover. The face buttons and shoulder buttons are larger, and some have been reconfigured for optimum use. The unit includes a new storage slot for the touch screen's stylus, and the speakers now broadcast in stereo sound, with or without headphones..."

YAY! I hope it's not spray-painted like the SP, that's the only shit that pissed me off, how scratched up they get...

I'm happy the design is sexy, but still simple ... unlike the PSP, Nintendo's gotta cover all bases with the design from tiny kids to adults..

I don't like the design much, looks like a waffle baker (http://images.google.com/images?q=waffle%20baker&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&c2coff=1&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wi) designed by BMW or something. I'll buy it if they redesign it to look llike, Donkey Kong LCD (orange with metal inlays).

I'm thinking of getting a GBA SP with the NES joypad look, even though I'm not particulary eager to play any games on it. It's just that it looks so rad.

true true

cant wait to see the new gaming innovations that can be now true, due to the dual screens :D

Sammy yo I got one and had it a month and looks like a year. :)

Pro - I just got a GBA SP and loving it - on the road, in the restroom, lunchtime, & misc.

Problem is finding games I like - Like I ditched golden sun, tonyhawks is up for trade now. hint hint, and warioware, I finally got hooked on Mario Kart and so addicted I am scouting other racing games like fzero and top gear. I hate rpg and puzzle style games.

Oh yes and all the reviews on the new nintendo is the other screen is a distraction and hard to manage. Wonder if it will go over much?

Reminds me of the old Game 'n Watch systems.

Don't really like the look of it when it is open but it looks nice closed.

Doood! Waffle Bakers are sleak and sexy!!!

I always looked to older waffle bakers when I had to make scrap models for my ID classes.
I give the DS a year before they come out with some 'commemerative edition Game And Watch" version ... man that'll be so damn shweet a shiny golden decal, with a donkey kong sticker.

For you guys lookin for really tight GBA games:

Is the GBA SP region free? ie. if I buy one in Sweden can I buy games in the US and vice versa?

How about the GC and DS?

I have no idea what games to get though, I've played a lot of them already  and they all bored me
Know of any RTS/skirmish/coffe break games at all for the GBA? Maybe the DS will have more of the mouse control style games I like. I just don't have patience anymore with levels and stories.

Edit: Maybe 'Game&Watch Gallery 4'... hmmm
or Wizards (http://www.gamespot.com/gba/strategy/wizards/index.html?q=) that seems to be a skirmish game.
Racing gears advance (http://media.gameboy.ign.com/media/680/680598/img_2104614.html) = SuperCars game???
Boulder dash EX could be nice (budget).
FFTA has some nonlinear gameplay from what I heard.
Tetris worlds sux apparently, so maybe Puyo Pop?

Edit again: Napoleon (http://www.gamespot.com/gba/strategy/napoleon/preview_2700396.html) looks like a Herzog Zwei clone judging from the review.

Seems like the japanese famicon GBA SP is white/wine red and the euro/am one is NES grey.

Somthing that came to me recently... what if you are left handed (like me)

It would seem kinda strange using the stylus with your right hand.

The buttons are arranged like a + so you can swap I think. Not sure if there's a hardware switch for it though, or if it has to be supported by the software.

hey Prometheus|ANJ, the gba sp is region free, so you can get a gba from say japan, and play a game from say uk etc.

the gamecube has a laser (cd) so its not region free, so you'll have to get the gamecube and all the games from anywhere in europe (make sure its PAL, thats your region)

the ds i have no idea. it will be backwards compatible, so you can play all gameboy games on it. but i'm not sure what format the ds games are, so i cant say. i have a feeling thought that it wont be region free.

as for games, i cant think of any right now, but i could check to see what games there are fore gba that are "pick-up-and-play" type (i'm guessing thats what your looking for). lemme know

yeah mine is hella sexy ^-^ i love it. but if i didnt get it, i would definatley get the famicon one (i was thinking of getting one, but having 2 would be pretty pointless)
if i was rich i would get all the special edition ones and out them in nice glasss displays ^-^

anyway, yeah will be cool to play you over wi-fi. i simply cant wait for this.

why you want me to pm you? did i miss something? ^-^

Well because we have to wait for the release.. a pm would be nice to let eachother know we got the stuff. 8)

I'm going to the US in november so i might get my DS then.. if they stick to the release date. (which is november 11th i believe.)

Dunno when Mario kart's coming out though.. :\

Nice to see another Nintendo freak who wants to display all his ninty goodies

cartoonfox
July 31st, 2004, 10:33 AM
ah i see. ^-^

yeah i'm probably going to the us (san fran) sometime around november for the next big workshop. so i'll grab one if i can too ^-^
mariokart might be a release game. i hope so. another kick as game will be mario 64x4. man i havent played that awesome game in ages. not ure how it would work though.

anyway, we gota make sure the ds is region free. i sure hope so but i'm not sure. the format is some sort of memery card type thing, alot like the gameboy games, so it must be region free. here's hoping ^-^

see you on the starting grid soon.....

[edit] yeah same here. its nice to see a fellow nintendo freak/fan ^-^
will be cool playing with you

I'm looking into getting a GBA right now, but new GBA games here are 60-65usd (450-500sek) and GC games are even worse @ 70-85usd.

When looking on amazon, most new games are around 35usd, which makes me wonder if and how I can order from there.

.................. SWE ..... Amazon
GBA SP NES - 166usd 100usd
New Game - 60usd 35usd
NesClassics - 35 usd 18usd

So basically
GBA + 4 games - 355usd 210usd

Add to this the fact that I pay twice as much taxes as an american. Pretty absurd.

We got 220V outlets here, not 110V like in the US, maybe I need an adapter for the battery recharger? The Ion battery must be the same, so I'm guessing the recharge cord/transformator must be different.

Edit: "Toys, games, and video games can be shipped only to locations within the U.S., U.S. protectorates, and APO/FPO addresses." :(

cartoonfox

hey prom, which amazon site you looking at? dont order from the us site. the shiping will kill you off. plus you wont be able to use a gamecube without extra conversion leads and disks

try amazon uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/573612/ref=amb_vg_h__nav_573612/026-3129166-7132411)
the shipping will be much cheaper for you. plus all the games and consoles are PAL) if your living in sweden, your region is PAL (for gamecube that is, gba doesnt matter)
if you do buy a gba from a us site, you can get adapters for the charge cable (i have a japanese gba sp, so i have a japan-uk adaptor myself)

but do not buy a us gamecube, there is just too much trouble getting it to work on your tv, due to region differences. you need to have the right kind of tv, and need a special disk to play PAL games (and not all games work) and some of them have problems saving to the memory card blah blah... ^-^

if you want any other info, just let me know

Hmmm... seems like the amazon UK prices are as high as the swedish ones, when I activate the currency translation thing. That gives me two options, either pay twice as much as everyone else, or *cough* ... *cough cough cough* *hurrrr* ... sorry I got something in my throat.
