hmm the most useful crit in that case would prolly be that you should post your images in a size somewhere between that of the thumbnail and the linked ;P

it really looks good to me. do more or something else!

haha

Yes, I thought the same thing. Wish there was an image size inbetween. If you saw my original post this is new to me. What I'm doing is scanning the image, then making a jpeg out of it. Finally, I'm posting it at an image site for transfer here.
Am I missing something in the process? How can I get that mid-sized image?
Yes, I'll post more and other things as well

Thanks,

Smith :waves:

Irfanview, free, has easy resize tools if your don't own a more powerful program. I like a height of 650 if I can get away with it, but a width of no more than 650, ever. My little brain can scroll up and down, side to side is too close to walking while chewing gum.

At first I thought it was your avatar. Silly me.

I love how realistic it looks scaled down like that.
If you mess up it usually falls apart and looks strange at that size.
You did a good job.

What program do you use for scanning? Photoshop?
Most programs that can be used for scanning have options like:
"scale image" or "image size" ...
I now usually resize to a height of 555.

You might also want to compress the image when you save it.
Grayscale images can often be compressed to 50% without looking worse.

I tried to resize the image. It took a lot of searching and experimenting but I think this is much better as far a viewable size. Thanks for all the help!!! :)
I will say that the process of getting the image here does have a degrading/grainy effect to the picture. Oh well, I'm just glad to be here :jump2:

One thing that strikes me is that all three items are the same tone. It tends to keep them from interacting in a more visually interest way (since they are not three things of the same type, like three eight-balls, e.g.).
Obviously a very nice render, though.

Dogfood,
You're right it does tend to be less interesting with the same tone(you mean tone value right?). I'm not sure what I could do to add more interest to the image. The arrangement would probably have to be changed. I sort of deliberately chose 3 textures as close to black as possible to see if I could convey the texture of each individual. any suggestions are absolutely welcome :clapping1

Thanks so much

very nice.. i think the driver should perhaps be a much lighter tone, so that the objects stand out from each other more, but its very well done

cfitzart,
Thank you for the input! My next project will likely take this issue into account specifically for visual interest :btu:
