this is a silly painting i finished recently. it started out that i wanted to paint my girlfriend yet again, then i decided to do three of her, then i seemed like the natural addition. i'm pretty embarrased about my physical condition, but i work a desk job now, and have become soft and squishy. all in all, im pretty happy with the finished peice. the palette is influenced by a gottfried helnwein exhibit i saw recently, in which i was really taken by his monochromatic pieces... its oil on canvas, 35x60. hope ya like-c36

helnwein is one of my favorite painters! I love his stranger work the most though.
these pieces are fantastic, i like where she is standing backwards, the shadow on her side and the tattoo really make it nice.
I'm guessing your the male?

really cool composition. and great choice of color.
the subtle orange really works great. i would have never thunk it.
thats gotta be tough balancing the chroma like that with physical paint. :)
the one of her back is fantastic. did she stand there for you or did you take a picture of her?
your pose looks like the cover of a suicidal tendancies album... hah! all you need is a doorag or a hat with the bill flipped up... i had that poster when i was a youngsta.
ehhhh,, im probably talking to myself now...

Well, technically it's perfect as always. What catches my attention first is the way you both seem to flee from the camera's eye. It makes me smile because it gives some kind of purity to the portraits.
I have the same request as Foster: please show us some closeups that we can try to comprehend your technique.

The subtle hues are magnificent. I really enjoy seeing the yellow(-ish) tones mixed with the strong blue and green.
Yeah nice body...you too el coro ^_^ haha..

Great to see some actual paint work. I can't paint, so I'm very impressed whenever I see a piece like this. You don't have the luxury of working with layers and stuff like that, which makes it more of an effort and more impressive.
I don't have anywhere I could paint anyway; I can't just put newspapers or plastic on the livingroom floor and paint away with oils... So it's digital for me.
The only crit(I should be ashamed of myself for even mentioning anything with such a great painting! :o), would be her face in the one of her next to you. I think there's something not totally right about her eyes and perhaps nose.
Not sure what it is.... Seems the eyelid on the left(to us) is arching upwards, but the other eye is arching downwards. I think. And perhaps the placement...
Can't believe i'm saying the above! :o
I'll shut up now.
It's a great piece!!

thanks you guys! im glad y'all liked this one.
odin six: yeah, its hard for me to work monochromatically as well. i always want to put red on the nose...this was fun for that reason, though. i had to use restraint through out the whole painting, and in the end, i was glad i did. lono, i painted the whole canvas with a bright yellow/ orange before i started. this worked out in the end, but it was a fucking bitch to paint on. next time ima gonna use something a little more muted. i wanted to use something warm so as not to keep it TOO monochromatic, and i guess it kind of worked...yeah now that you manetion it, it is kind of the pose from the suicidal cover. i grew up in el paso texas, where cholo culture is quite prominent, and i guess it still influences me today, ese...foster: ill post a close up as soon as i can. thats quite a compliment coming from you, dude. thanks. by the way, congrats on all the spectrum 9 work! you rocked that shit proper this year, homie! davi: yep its me. seung ho: thanks man! as a huge fan of your work, im really glad you like it. ng: i just painted what i saw, i've learned that in figurative painting, particularly with portraiture, if you don't paint it exactly how you see it, the likeness can be lost. its a dulble edged sword working with photo reference, somethimes things just don't look right no matter what you do...don't be afraid to paint, i've got white berber carpet in my living room, but that hasn't stopped me from painting almost every day! thanks again everyone for the kind words, i now feel like i should pursue this look a bit more-c36

Man, I love your work. It gives me a sense of inadequacy (hehehe) but, I love it. My favorite one on your site is the little boy on the branch with the darkness and chains around him. It hits home with me. That image is how I feel in this world. Well done.;)
