I don't get it. she's invisible?
As for anatomy...
I suggest you check Hogarth and the Hale anatomy books out. If you can't find people to draw then draw yourself in the mirror, see how your muscles work and understand anatomy through function. Hogarth is good because its exaggerated, in a similar way to comics, amd when you've learnt this you can reduce to a more realistic form.

Hi StudioPC,
I'm gonna try and give a constructive crit... :o
I read through the story from the link you provided, and personally, I didnt think much of it. It just seemed like the Matrix, with a women named Barbara Gordon, and Bruce Wayne thrown in for good measure. I know the story is just an idea, and a new twist for 'Batgirl' but I honestly, I think you could make something up that would be a lot better than this. I'm no writer myself, but I'd start again.
As for the line work (and I think you know this already) but it could use a lot more work done to it. Anatomy and composition. (check through Tutorials section for help - nuff in there...) Have a look at how women are drawn in comics, the dynamic poses, and wot not. When I was first startin out drawing, I used to copy comic book characters and such, this helped heaps (for me at least) with drawing, and eventually understanding anatomy and (some) composition. Also, try and add more detail to her bat suit, it looks too normal at the mo, like you haven't added your own personal touches to it. What else could Batgirl have on her suit that would better Batman???
Also, (gonna be harsh now) the pic you've posted above, is really crappy. I cant see the line work of your character, I see a bat sign, the Matrix but...?
I hope this helps dude, and is in some way a 'constructive critique'
(- Also, you posted a story, and a pic of a character called 'Jack' and you got quite a bit o stick as I recall. If your not too sure with regards the in's and outs of drawing your own comic, maybe you should just think about illustrating one or two key elements from the story? Just a final thought...)

I'm not making excuses as some people have said I do, but rather explaining my reasoning.
The idea basically was the idea of Batgirl being formed out of Matrix code. Much the same way they faded to Morpheus in the trailers for Matrix 2. In theory, having Batgirl's eyes and symbol not made out of code gives her a rather spooky air or whatever.
Here's the original version. Or rather, the line art. The above is redesign of the below costume
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v339/studiopc/whoabat.jpg
As for the comic. I have the story. As I explained earlier, a lot time passes between the drawing of actual strips. The most recent one was put up in Early May. It's also more of a writing portfolio then a artist portfolio and chapter one is an artist experiment.
Yes, experiment. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

I kinda hate your ideas. Sorry its the drawings that disgust me. Don't be offended though. You just need (seriously) ten or so good years of improving before I think anyone will kinda appreciate your skill. You make up these silly stories, but why, for whom. Nobodies interested. Why!!! because they're not interesting. I aways think people who are thinking up stories or making concept art hope to get a foot in the door somewhere someday so that they're ideas become big, and not just make it for themselves. But for you there's absolutley no hope, (not now at least).
I advise you to stop posting untill you've greatly improved on your skills. A guy with your minor talent should stick to and improve on either storytelling or art. No use going of in both directions at once cause you'll only fail miserably. About your art I've nothing more to say cause you and every one knows it sucks really bad. You claim your not making excuses for you shortcomings but explain your reasoning, but your reasoning hardly ever makes any sense.
And about your stories, well... Who inthe world do you think is interested in a weird batman/matrix fusion. ITS BEEN DONE A HUNDRED THOUSAND TIMES OVER. Forget the Matrix forget Batman think up your own stories and let DC and The Wachowski Brothers have there own ideas to them selves.
Yes, I was harsh and don't expect your understanding. But then again I don't care, I say whats on my mind, so there.

Fair enough geeza, it's an experiment. Thats cool. But the line art provided in the link above, is really no different from your re-design posted in the first place, there's no real change. Also the pic posted doesn't have any spooky feeling to it whatsoever. Its a line drawing pasted to the 'Matrix', not very original.....
Dude, I do suggest you concentrate on your drawing skills if you want to be taken seriously here. As you've explained yourself, you dont draw enough, and time passes between each strip drawn.

Critique of the drawing aside, take a look at this tutorial on displacement maps. If the matrix code appeared to wrap around her form, it would be infinitely more convincing. As it stands now it looks like a line drawing pasted into matrix wallpaper.

. . . Did I say I was going somewhere with it? Did I say at any point I was going to write a grand epic? Hell no. It was a random idea that crossed my mind and I was never happy with the orignial artwork so I took another stab at it. I apologize for wasting your bandwith on my ideas. I shall go break my drawing hand in abasement for offending you by thinking I could post in the same forum as you.

I'm sorry if you're offended. I guess its just my bad for thinking people would ever want to go somewhere with the stories and art they create. Sorry, I know better now (the sarcasm should be oozing off by now) Though, if it exists only in your mind why share it with other people i wonder, I mean who would want to know?
I'm not saying we shouldn't post in the same forum, I just spoke my mind and would like you to be very aware of the countless limitations of your current skill level. You should realise that for now your talents exist for the sole purpose of feeding the balance (the one nobody dares talk about) What balance? you ask. The balance between GOOD ART & TERRIBLE ART. Yes there is a great line between the two its a fact.
If that line would be false then why doesn't anybody accept your art for what it is, why doesn't anybody say: ''Hey, his anatomy sucks but it must be part of his style, therefore i love it.'' Do you ever hear anybody say: ''Picasso doesn't follow anatomy so his work sucks''? NO!!! No one says it because THIS is an example ot terrible art.
If what I just said is all a lie then that would mean the world knows no great art, because for great art to exist there must also be terrible art, your art, you know the whole black/white, light/darkness, yin/yang crap. Perhaps I'm taking this thing to far now, but hey at least I took the time to speak my mind.
Oh and the fact that you claim to be a 27 year old who's been drawing for a couple of years adds fuel to the fact that your work is terrible and exists only to lift good art on its shoulders. Sorry...
Your free to prove me wrong, anybody is.

No, its I who should be aplogizing. I shouldn't be touching the internet on low blood sugar. I'm far more irritable when hungry. I shouldn't have snapped, and I'm sorry.
I am 27, its just that I censor myself. I draw maybe half of what crosses my mind, and put up maybe half of that. I actually just did a DSB entry where I did neither, but then, I'm having a normal day and nothing really weird crossed my mind.

Thought I'd chime in here.
StudioPC, you've probably heard this before on your other thread but it's no less valid here. You need to start drawing from life. You need to sit down for a couple hours as often as you can and seriously draw somthing in front of you, where the relationships between light and dark, proportion and perspective can be observed firsthand. As long as you stick to made up characters, you'll only have made up anatomy as your foundation. In that sense, your art will be nothing but surface.
I'm not going to crit your designs or story simply because, really, you shouldn't worry about those right now. Untill you have a fundamental understanding of form, you're merley aranging parts that you've seen before somewhere else. I in no way mean to offend you or want you to be detered. Take this as a challenge. Take your skecthbook, sit down on your couch and draw your coffee table and everything on it. Get friends and relatives to sit still for you and draw their faces. Learn about your medium too (not photoshop) and what it can and can't do. Stuff like that makes a world of difference if you do it enough. If you're able, I definitely suggest taking a class on drawing or finding an open studio that has public life-drawing sessions.
Good luck in any case.

I'm gonna take another life drawing class this fall when school starts again. I would have done it this summer, but it wasn't being offered.
In the last life drawing class that I took, the models wore unitards and form fitting clothing. It was a life drawing for animation class so I guess the rules were different.

Agat_vonghoul, considering that at the time of this post, that is the only piece of art you yourself have posted on this forum, you have very little room to criticize other people's work.
As for you StudioPC, I will just echo the eminent Exo's excellent (sorry I got going and couldn't stop) advice. I also hope you will not let the comments you have been getting from some of the people here discourage you. I feel that they reflect very poorly on the conceptart.org community. You should take heart and know that I have seen artists lesser than you and older than you become very highly regarded and excellent artists. The only secret is practice. If you are indeed serious about becoming a better artist, draw every day. Draw your hands. Draw your room. Draw your family. Draw your pets. Draw your car. Draw your house. The more you do it, the better you will get, gauranteed.

This is getting interesting.
First of all I got a question for you, StudioPC. How serious are you about your work?
There are a few beneficial comment here from EXO and Nimrod and while a few others might sound discouraging and at times condescending. But i think it will be a great advantage for you to take those negative comments and filter through them. Look at them closely and be critical of yourself and your work. You have got to know where you are at (whether it's your strength or weakness)....in order to improve.
I think I can safely assume that we all here in this forum want to be a good artist and we would like to think that we are working hard to get there. But if you are not careful, sometime misguided dedication can take you for a ride on a long detour. It's all depend on how serious you are about art. If you are not ...forget what I said, or pretty much all the comments that has been given here.
I myself have been seriously drawing for a long time (still not enough) and I still can't really call myself "an artist".
Draw.

I'm not worried about Aqat. Between my grandpa and the fact that I went to public high school, my skin's fairly thick. He's actually sort of amusing.
But to answer your question:
I suppose I'm serious, I've got at least 20 How to draw books and I'm an animation major (again, I got a late start), so I guess that's serious.
Mostly, what I want to do in life is tell stories. I derive enjoyment out of creating worlds and the people within them. *Shrug* Concept art seems like a natural fit.

In one of my fits of self-depression, I accepted that I would never be more then a competant artist who will never win awards, but at least be able to get paid for their efforts. However, being that I have a perfectionist streak (a fact which ticks me off), I doubt I'll stop with competant.

at first i thought...hey, this sucks (sorry,man)...and then i looked at the story....which has more potential than the art (even though it's been done more than a zillion times, and whatnot)...
i am not a proffessional. no one will probably ever pay me for my art. i could be wrong. but all i'm saying here is that you have to start somewhere, and if you like this piece and it makes you happy, screw all the negative comments and look at the good ones...but, to tell you the truth, the reason why this forum is cool is that it's a medium for 100% honesty...i actually love the brutality of some of these responses, because negative critisism (in my experience, anyway) is more productive than positive crits at certain points in your life: like, hey, why did they say that? what can i do to make it better, because i don't want to hear that again...(see, i'm having a split personality moment here, just pick the response you like the best, haha)
if i were you, i would seriously consider minoring in some sort of writing
interesting idea overall, by the way

Thats one of the stupidest things in this thread. He should do more art and keep posting and getting help. thats the point, right? We are all here to help each other improve...alone, the journey is longer and harder.
A guy with your minor talent should stick to and improve on either storytelling or art.
And thats about the smartest advice in here in the next sentance. Trying to go in both directions is going to be difficult. Find the one you like the best and go with that.

AHAHAHAHAH. True.
As far as your thread, StudioPC, here's my 2cents. I think it would be awesome if you made up a story of your own, and went for that. Its nothing against you, but seeing movies like...Aliens vs Predator...Chronicles of Riddick....Matrix Revolutions (groan)..its just tired. Everything doesn't need a sequel a prequel, or a spinoff. Anybody could combine 2 ideas. Lets see what you got, man. If you're a writer I bet you've got some good things cookin...show us something new!

Guys....
Let's all beat down on somebody in a stupid way, that would be a good way to spend our time.
StudioPC, listen to nimrod, he's right. I don;t hope the gist of some reactions you got reflects the way CA community really is... >>> Crits should either be constructive or no crit at all, this is not helping...
At the same time: your skills seem not at the moment very advanced, so if you get any crits, it might be better to realize their value a bit more in stead of going in defense. Try to post stuff that we can help you with, it is very difficult to see the girl at all in that first image ;-) so post your best stuff only, and only if you really spent some time on it, not a 15 minutes job. Think about the time you'd like people to crit you, and about the time you invested in this specific picture.
Keep at it and practice, and then we wil see better stuff in the future!
BTW. how old are you?

Studio: Drop the matrix part, work on your linework. I think you will go somewhere, definately if you keep practicing. Check out mindcandyman's thread, maybe start a sketchbook. If someone crits you, check out their work before you take them seriously. Your linework isn't so bad, but the matrix makes me spew already, don't torture us with it. :batman:

StudioPC, I was looking through this and one of your other threads here, and you have been given some very valuable crits. I wish that i could get as many crits as you have for one of my posts.
i think something you should really do is just stop posting every drawing you do, and when you draw, put as much effort into it as you can, keeping these crits in mind, and applying them to your drawings.
once you have done this you should post these pieces and receive more crits based on how you used the older ones. Also you should take everyones advice and just draw from life, and stop trying to create your own characters and stories for a while, eventually you will be able to do this, and it will be much easier.
