Yeah AAU is supposed to be wicked expensive, but there are a ton of resources there, and good network possibilities.
Don't read reviews from this site only...check out www.cgtalk.com etc
There will always be good and bad perspectives, it really all depends on the students.

Well lets see theres the Academy of Art University where I'm going, AISF (which hasnt really been talked about too favorably, as far as i know), CCAC, which is seems to focus more on modern-art sensiblities, though ive seen some neat work come out of there, San Jose State University, which has a nice illustration program as well.. i think there's a bunch of other minor little schools that dont offer degrees or advertise much.. i know there's another big art school here that im missing.. shit

hi, thanks
so how much are you paying for academy of art? and will it be more for internationla students?
i know that some schools charge like double for international students, and others charge almost the same as the normal charge, so i need to check each one ^-^
i'm not really looking for like the biggest school, just anyone will do as long as the course is good. obviosly the cheaper the better ^-^
thanks again

well tuition for 4 classes turns out to be $6775/semester.. i couldnt tell you how much that is for international students, sorry.. email em if you really wanna know.. i get a good-sized grant which knocks that down to about $1800/semester, then i get the rest on loans.. its not as bad as it could be..
i think the biggest bang for the buck is San Jose State, but its about 50 miles from San Francisco, and SJ the city doesnt compare to SF, in my opinion.. SF kicks too much ass..

As I told you before, cartoonfox, I was going to be researching AAU as well, and here's what I found:
AAU is the cheapest art school in San Fancisco.
Barring any school I'm leaving out (I researched Art Institute of Cali: San Fran; San Fran Art Institute, which is an entirely different school; California College of Art; California Institute of the Arts, and Academy of Art University), AAU has the cheapest per-year tuition.
Here are the numbers I've dug up (for both in-state and out-of-state, which I assume also includes international students):
Academy of Art University: $16,780
AI of Cali: $16,896
California College of Arts and Crafts: $23,250
California Institute of the Arts: $24,695
San Francisco Art Institute: $22,176
And just for comparison's sake, since San Fancisco is seen as an expensive sort of town, here's the yearly tuition for Savannah College of Art and Design, an art school not too far from me:
$19,535
These rates were taken from this site (http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/compare_schools.jsp), which I assume is updated regularly. I will be calling universities next week to get the real rates for spring semester next year, which is when I will be attempting to transfer.
As you can see, AAU is the cheapest, beating out AI by over $100. That isn't much, but considering the quality of the school coupled with the fact that it's cheaper than AI leaves little doubt which school I'll be attending.
My father was a Vietnam vet, so there will definitely be a grant from that (I've been doing the research on that). With another scholarship or two, or maybe another grant, and finished off with some very reduced loans, it's entirely doable. Not as mega-expensive as others make it sound.
Of course, this information is subject to correction, so if I'm wrong, please please please enlighten me.

^^ That info is a bit misleading cuz it factors in cost-of-living expenses, which varies from person to person.. if you want the cost per credit you should look it up as well..

I just came back from giving a talk at Expressions in Emeryville, I was super impressed. They have some amazing equipment. Make sure you give them consideration if your thinking about 3d.
