I woke up in the middle of the night last night to find my entire right arm completely useless. It was completely numb and i couldnt even lift it. I started freaking out , and lifting it with my other arm. It was pretty freaky....but it was just asleep, and once i went to the potty the blood started flowing back into my lower arm and i went back to sleep. I must have slept on it wrong...gotta watch out for that.

I used to have a HUGE problem sleeping on my arm and waking up with it in various states of sleepness. I figured it probably wasn't good for it to be without blood for periods of time like that so I made an effort to change the way I slept for a while.

But once, I had the exact same experience...I woke up and freaked out cause my entire arm was asleep. It was a major trip.

use to happend to me every night or so. Freaky isn't it ? I thought I was having a nightmare the first time.. Then simply got used to it and just flung my arm on the side so it would live again. Can hurt like a mofo sometimes tho. Then it just went away.

I actually had that happen to me in both arms once a long time ago. Scared the living shit out of me. Don't ask me how the hell I fell asleep to make that happen, but the sensation actually woke me up. I was sitting in my bed flopping my useless limbs back and forth. It was like a stranger slapping my legs >8)

Are you sleeping with your arm out of joint and under your head? That can be one possible cause. I know it's horrible for your shoulders when you do that.

you know ive heard stories of people intentionally lying on their arm to make their hand go numb before spending some time with "Mrs. Palmer and her five daughters", if you know what I mean. You guys sure this was all "accidental"?

That'd be an interesting theory except that when MY hand/arm goes numb, I lose any control over it. ie. I can't even make a fist.

So unless people are just planning on slappin' themselves around, i don't see how that'd work. ;)

funny how heavy my arm feels when it does that. Normally I just try and make a fist repeatedly.. normally blood eventually flows back and I go back to sleep.. :P

That is too funny!

Don't worry guys, it's not harmful one bit. Your brain is waking you up because your arm is becoming numb. The only problem is doing that when you are drunk. That way, your brain can't wake you up and you can stay numb or weak a couple of days. We call it the "Saturday night palsy" ehehehe!

Happened to me last night too ironically. I'd slept on my arm a long time so when the blood went back in, it hurt like a bitch.

Yea, I used to have that happen more often, sometimes feeling would come back after a few seconds.. one time it seemed to take forever... always freaks me out. Sitting up in a hurry and having that arm just flop out all foreign and lifeless.

i have the same kind of problem, sorta, except my arms or legs or whatever just sorta lock up. they just clench so tight i can't move it... it's like trying to massage a pumpkin trying to loosen it up, so i sorta try to relax, call loved ones, smoke something, listen to music, or just pull a samurai and imagine the pain disappearing.

Haha... Jason said it, that's called "The Stranger."

I just installed a new home theater system, I gotta watch that movie again (Gone in 60 Seconds).

Eh, I usually wake up and I'm completely numb and it takes a couple of minutes before my body starts responding to comands. I've seen the doc about it, and he says I'm just a really hard sleeper. I guess that makes sense, considering I've slept through thunderstorms that have shook the windows in thier panes.

Mateem, thats sleep paralysis right? Or did the doctor say it was something else?

Yeah, it's a weird feeling. Probably everyone has gone through that. ;)

Somehow both legs going numb is more usual to me. I once woke up in the middle of the night for a trip to the toilet (after a party were tons of beer were consumed), jumped out of bed in a flash as used to and collapsed on the ground instantly. I spent something like 2 minutes lying there thinking "wtf?"... Weird.
