Now I'm taking Art seriously. You guys were right: when you've learned the basics of anatomy, everything seems easier. I'm not an expert (yet) but I really think I've improved a lot.

Smooth criminal's my favorite. I might do something with that sketch. He looks a bit off-balance though.

I think I'm getting the hand of this...

The proportions on this new work are alot better that those in your link, I hope you plan on stepping away from the anime look though. Are those figures drawn from one of those wooden doll things? :arcfreak: Great work anyway, it's great that you've resolved to be the best artist you can be. Good luck

Poses are always good practice, I'm not much for anime style though, but it's obvious you're trying and I see good potential. Keep goin` :D

Beside the last one, I don't really see some anime in these. Anime is not my style but I still love it.

How am I suppose to get better if no one comments my work?

Your action poses are pretty good, now try fleshing them out instead of leaving them in that manikin body. Really push your anatomy knowledge. Check out books by Andrew Loomis (http://www.saveloomis.org/). Especially on this page (http://www.saveloomis.org/FigureDrawing/50.htm). I've been practicing using this as a reference.... and I'm still practicing.

A couple of things:
1- The hands are looking kind of small. Generally the hand can fully cover the face. Yours looks like it would only cover half.
2- I think the reason it looks like anime is because of the simplified eyes. Not saying it's bad, I simplify my eyes too.

Don't feel too bad if no one replys, just keep on posting your drawings and someone will comment sooner or later. You'll NEVER get replys if you don't post ;)

Thanks for your suggestion! I'll check that tommorow (I'm busy now)

get a book with a little bit more dynamic figure stuff
I hope you're kidding there cuz I really don't see how I could make these pose more dynamic.

I suggested the books as a guide to anatomy not for dynamic poses.

ShirRon > I just checked your link. Very interresting. Did you buy one of those books? Wich is better in your opinion?

Nope, I haven't bought any of them. I figured since they're available free on the internet I wouldn't need to. But if I come across one in a book store I might buy it. I can't really recommend which one is better because they cover different topics. Just pick one you need to know more about like heads and hands, or "Fun with a Pencil" if you want to learn more about a cartoony style.

Man, I think you're doing one of the best things in order to improve: draw. The other thing, that often allows you to get over a plateau (when you keep drawing and don't see the dramatic improvement you're used to seeing) is to mix it up. My figure drawing took a leap whe I started getting a bit looser with the pencil (not loose like that; keep your mind out of the gutter!). Every line doesn't have to be right. Now, you might be doing that and are just erasing a lot, but quick gesture sketches are a great way to impart action. I'll start with one line denoting the axis and dergree of motion and go from there. I think there is even some of that in Loomis (great stuff that's out of print; hence it's popularity on the web and scarcity in the stores).

Keep going, you're doing great!

I suggest try drawing a few portirats of urself...look in the mirror and draw urself...or just look around and draw real faces..work with shading and all that grand stuff. This helps u on how the facial features work so your eyes nose and lips look a bit better....it seems everyone here hates anime but I love it but I usually try and stay away from it when I draw and create my own type style...its true anime is bad cuz porportions and stuff are messed up...BUT U CAN STILL WATCH IT!..I still do and will never lose my love for it ^_^;

anime aint bad... its just a bad starting point... practicing anime stuff wont lead you anywhere... drawing lifestuff and goin back to anime style after you know what to do is ok, though.

You know, it's funny you mention that cuz I started to portrait yesterday. I began with chix on some magazines and a few fellows as well. Then I started to contemplate the beauty that the mirror was reflecting. So I started my own portrait.

Damn I'm ugly

Usually, I improvise poses but this time, I had some models.

I just tried to sketch the pose as fast as I could thus practicing gesture.
