Most of these are pretty random and spread among the past couple of months. I use a Nikon F100(which I love) and a pretty crappy sigma lens(which I hate). I also own and use regularly, though not on any of these pictures, an old Canon AE-1 and an assortment of lenses. It too puts out an excellent image. You'd never be able to tell it's about 28 years old. I'm thinking about buying a D70 but I have one little problem--I'm broke. All of these were scanned using a Hp Scanjet TMA film adapter for a flatbed scanner. It works pretty well. These are some of my older pictures, but they are all recently scanned. Comments, suggestions, and crits are always welcome....enjoy!

Here's one of my cat that came off the roll today. The gain went haywire becuase I developed it like it was a roll of 100iso forgetting that its was 400iso...oops. But I actually like the effect...

I like all photos very much! Great stuff! :)
Which do ya'll prefer; color or bw? I can't decide...
Both are striking and it's difficult to choose but in my opinion the
second (sepia) seems to me more romantic.
The cat is also cool!

Meet my cat Silas. He's a nice cat. A nice cat that likes to bite you through the lawn chair holes; right on the ass. I caught him in the act this time-before he bite me.

{UPDATE! LOOK LOOK: I was looking at this picture earlier today trying to figure out how I got that good of contrast and I remember, and I think it should be mentioned for all those that are into blackandwhite photography...A red filter...I bumps contrast to some wicked sick levels...it's great for things like statues, clouds, and landscapes(desert especially). Yellow Orange and Red are the three big ones for contrast in assending order. I forgot that I even had one(well actually I have all three)...now I'm excited! MORE B&W!}

haha...Yeah, he's a great cat. He loves to bite though never hard. And no he doesn't wear a silice like silas, he's always naked. I have lots of pictures of him so I'm sure that you will be seeing more of him.

I had some free time today to scan some portraits that I've taken this year. I really like doing portraits but no one ever wants to pose. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? Most of the time I wait until the aren't looking to take the shot, or until they forget that I'm there with the camera. lol Well here they are.

Deco: I took that picture at the San Antonio(texas) Zoo from behind a very large wall...
Krispee: You know suprisingly I have had a pretty fair amount of things to take pictures of lately. I guess that the chance for a great picture is always there, you just have to be ready and know where to look. Chance has a fair amount to do with it as well. Oh, and that lady is my mother. We've been around each other a lot this summer so she has been deemed subject#1.

Well, believe it or not, I have some more to post today...just few this time. nothing major.

bravely to take the photo if bear like this is in front of you.

'Professional photos'...Man, that's quite a compliment! wow. I really wish I could tell you that I was professional, but It's actually more of a hobby. I would love to make a profession out of it, but I like being able to pay bills and eating meals that do not consist of beans and Cup-o-Noodles. You know what I mean? Anyways, thanks Deco. You made my day.

I have two other, dare I say, quasi-professional photo's :bashful: for ya'll today. I've been doing a lot of studying for my Physics 2 course lately so, naturally, I made a photo assignment out of it. These are untouched in photoshop (accept for the borders). More and more of my new stuff has been straight from the film...which is a really really good thing to say, at least for me.

Deco: that's only the study guide--you should see the textbook!
I took these a couple of months ago before the rains came. The creek dwon by a trail I bike on was dried but for a small pond that all the animals had been coming to for past several months from the looks of things. There were literally thousands of tracks left in the hardened mud. It was really quiet amazing. I should have shot an entire roll there, but I only shot these four...live and learn I 'spose.

This is a Catidad (member of the locus-loudascrap family) and it is leaving its old beatle body and speading it's wings for the first time. This sequence took about 2hours start to finish before the bug's exoskeleton hardened and he was able to defend itself from me and fly off. But I don't think it was scared of me becuase I saved it's life from my barking biting dog. And I guarded it. it returned the favor with these great pix. Enjoy guys...

Nice shot on that hyena, reminds me of old how to draw animal books.

You have a good sense of placement.

JAUrrutia9
September 3rd, 2004, 01:14 PM
Bubbles: I use a Nikon F100 most of the time, but I do caring an old Canon AE1 around to that I use frequently. They both are great cameras.
Bfly: the bug is something we have around here in Texas. It's called a katidad, and they are loud, windsheild cracking flying my tanks. He was going though his 'hatching' process in these pictures. They look like beatles for the first part of their lives, then they go through a metamorphosus like a butterfly and come out looking like a flying volkswagen.
Thanks for you're comments guys!

Nice stuff - keep shooting! I particularly like the insect emerging. I will now be an incurable bio geek and tell you more about it. :teeth: Local vernacular for these things vary wildly (ie locust, katydid), but they are cicadas. They exist all over the US and can be divided into three major groups. One is the annual cicada, which operates on an annual schedule - new cicadas emerge every year. The other two groups are periodic cicadas and emerge every 13 and 17 years respectively. What you photographed was an annual cicada. Very fascinating life cycle. The emergences of the periodic groups can be amazing - I've stood around large oak trees where there were thousands emerging at once.

OK, I'm done. Keep shooting!

the last pic on your first post in this thread would make a great transpareny thing where you put the hand in focus print on a semi transparent paper, then put it ove the hand in focus so you can flip them, ore like a cd cover with the hand in focus thing on the front then the pic underneath the cd would b the one with you in focus, dunno, just some random ideas haha :bashful:

good stuff man :teeth:

injection223: yeah, I thought about doing one of those dual image holograph things, but I don't know how so that idea didn't go far. It is a great idea though.

Well, Christmas break is great. I've been scanning and working in ps7 all night. I've got some good stuff this time.
These were all taken at The Bartan Springs Gardens here in Austin, Texas. Let me know what ya'll think.

I'm impressed that you are doing these without a digicam! I just started using one with more conrols than just a shutter click, and I can't imagine how hard it would be with a film camera.

I loved looking at these. my favorites are the one with the physics study book at the kitchen table, and the last one of the cat. The colors on both of those are excellent.

Your flower photos are great too. I havent been able to get out of the house cause of work, so I'm excited to start doing some nature photography. Keep posting man, they're inspiring!

Great stuff. They feel like professional pics just on the edge of snap-shots, all done on purpose, thereby creating the art within the photo. Yes, I'm deep.

btw, I used to live in Austin from '95 to '98 (originally from Houston). Great city :confident

Wow. I'm amazed at all the good review I got from the past two posts. Thank y'all very much. As if photography isn't rewarding enough, the nice things ya'll have said make it all worth the cost of film. lol
Just one for now. I'm hoping to add a lot more over Spring Break.

Is it me, or do those short make me look fat? haha, thanks ben. I was falling backwards as he took that; like "don't shoot!"

We went out to the Texas State Capital Building earlier today, but I, unlike him, have a film camera and I don't get to see my pictures until I get them developed. I need a digital bad.

Here are some new (or newly processed) pictures. Please leave any comments and crits...they are always welcome.

injection223: thanks man! I think that film cameras make a better photographer out of you than digitals for one reason; each shot costs you, so you want to make every one of them count. But digital is probably a much smarter solution.

FrozenValley: yeah, I like the hyena too.

Just a couple new ones. These were on campus. I'm still working on getting the new stuff over to the photoshop to get them developed.
