This is a drawing I made while I was having diner with some friends. I saw a group of people and started drawing them. I focused on the pretty girl. I then scanned the drawing in to photoshop and coloured it.

There are some composition issues, but I was somehow dependant on the drawing I had made.
I would like to do an animated film with this look someday.

What do you think? What does the image suggest to you?

Thanks in advance! :)

The original drawing can be seen in this thread here, youll have to scroll down: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26032

I rarely post in the sketches section, but this is really superb. I can't place exactly what it is that works for me, but it definitely does.

The colour has added SO much to this it's almost scary!

Which program/tools did you colour with?

Wow this is really great. I like the colors you choose, very suttle and warm looking. Would also be a great look for an animated film. I like how some areas are unfinished which gives it that artsy feel to it. Nice work!!! I see nothing wrong with it.

wow! thanks for the kind words. I wasnīt expecting such a positive response. Thanks!

I usually colour my linework duplicating the background layer and setting the new copied layer in multiply mode. I then colour in a new layer created underneath the multiplied layer. In this case I tried some new things out. The color scheme is quite simple. Iīll post the coloured image as it was before I started experimenting. this is it

Mostly flat colours, some hatching in some areas, some big strokes in the least important areas with a dark colour and a brush with pressure=opacity settings, and some brighter pink tones in the girls face so that she stands out a bit, not being as flat and monochrome as the rest.

I made a rectangular selection and started hatching with the brush (pressure=opacity again) in burn mode, making the girl stand out. I then copied this layer over itself. Both layers in normal mode. I applied a gaussian blur to the upper layer. Everything was blurry as I couldnt see the layer underneath. I then erased the areas I wanted to stand out with a soft rounded low pressure brush. And thats how i got the final look.

I think thats was it.

I hope I made the process clear. Itīs a new aproach for me , never tried this before.

thanks again

Awesome! When I first opened this the first thing that came to mind before reading it was that it looked like an animated film still.
