They are really amazing Scotty! :)
Especially "lily of the valley" (Convallaria maialis)
it's my Favourite flower. And the little puppy. :)
I'm a fan of black and white pictures.
They are so realistic as if you can touch them!
Great work! indeed :)

very nice.

i always wondered how one can take photos of insects so close, and yet they don't fly or run away. could you shed some light on that?

I'd also like to know. Those are all striking especially that murder one! :whoa:

Thanks for the shivers,

Thanks all! When it comes to insect photography it's almost like fishing....the more patient you are...the more rewards you'll reap. I can't count how many bugs have taken off on me, but I have always found that if you go out just after a rain they seem more cooperative. (Around where I live anyhow) :)

whoa! cool stuff! We've got some critters around our house this time of year that you would probably dig. Huge spiders with super strong webs.. I've done the web dance so many times coming out of our front door. It's like they do it on purpose. Maybe they've got awesome digital cameras too and are catching snaps of us like we do of them.. hmmmm...
Anyway, nice job!

HAHAHA...thanks Bfly! If they ARE taking our photos...I'd sure like to see them. ;)

I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! i've tried myself to take some photo's like this but my lens aint powerful enough. i have an olympus mju:400 and its an awesome tiny camera and stuff, the only problem is that i cant change lenses. anyway, enough about me, i love this stuff. i especially like the colour fly, its really cool. i'm just wondering, would it be ok for me to use some of these as refrences for sketches? also, do u have larger copies of each of the pictures, they could be so useful

cheers, and keep up the absolutly awesome work

Love the bugs man! These are nice macroshots. Were you using a tripod of anysort?

Scotty
July 15th, 2004, 04:40 PM
Thanks all! I actually use a Nikon Coolpix 2000. It's not and SLR so I'm stuck with just using the macro setting on the existing lens. I'm getting a Canon Digital Rebel SLR soon, and wait 'til you see the shots I'll get with that puppy...I can't wait! I never use my tripod as it would hamper my shot more than help it since I must chase down a lot of my subjects. Thanks again for the feedback! :hello!:

Andre- Sure you can use the shots for reference....I use them as reference for my sculptures actually. However, you'll have to use the existing shots here.....I keep the bigger ones for printing and selling. :chug:

Are you going to shot bugs with the new camera or you will undertake
with something quite new? :)

some of these really gross me out!.. and I mean that in a good way, really. These are so cool. I took a photo of a bee the other day.. and it made me think of your work. I should post it and get your feedback. It's so gnarly to see these guys so close. Very nice stuff.

That is a wicked sick looking spider. I bet you had a macro lens then didn't you? haha...a big one.

Decided to take a day off from sculpting, and do some photography. (wasn't raining, windy, or too sunny)

Some didn't turn out quite as I'd hoped, but that happens sometimes to us all I suppose...thanks for looking .

Scotty
August 11th, 2004, 08:16 PM
Hey! All I'm using right now is my Nikon Coolpix 2.0 Megapixel. I've pushed it to it's limits for sure, and am currently planing on upgrading to something that'll give me more freedom. I doubt I have anymore bugs than anyone else actually.....just go out there and look under leaves and closely at plants...I bet you'll be surprised what you find. :^^:

Changin' gears a little.......

love the b&w one with the bee facing you so simple ,but so smooth to look at
the b&w bell flowers are beautiful, all the rest are top notch too. oh also the spill one, very slick! the drops are placed perfectly,( it almost looks like a foot in the spill) do you see it?

Scotty
September 8th, 2004, 09:23 AM
Thanks all! I do see the foot actually.
All my photos that I've previously posted will be gone now due to my website being overhauled, but I'll just continue one from here.

Last night we had some amazing colours go across the sky, and the clouds were really whispy....here's some shots of them. The wind currents and the setting sun were really putting on a show. (I haven't seen a sky like this before....it was beautiful)

Thanks Deco! I appreciate the feedback. It was a blast just watching these guys kayak, and the Fall is my favorite time of year.:}

Here's a couple of photos I just had to take on the way home.....

Wonderful horse! The horses and the cats are my favourite animals!
Is that a wild horse or it's yours?

You have great look at the details. Some of the subjects are really
astonishing and it's difficult to imagine that they would look such great on
the photo but they really are, congrats! :)

Thanks Deco! It means a lot to me when people appreciate the effort I put into my shots. The Horse was just in a field next to the road we were driving down. I stopped and just had to take the photo...beautiful horse.

I've been busy with sculpting lately...so I haven't had as much time as I would like for photography, but I had some time today...and here's what I came out with.
I have a furry friend I've been feeding nuts outside my window. (He's collecting food for the winter...hence why it's in the Fall thread) I figure he'll need 'em more than I will this winter. ;)

In return...he let me take these black and white photos....what a cool guy. :)

You're sculpting?! That's great! :)
I always have impressed form people who can do that!
Shall we see some of your works on the"Sculpture directory"
of Conceptart Forums?

BTW, what a sweet squirrel :) and you've taken great photos.
Obviously it's real your friend because you've shot it in very close distance.

Thanks guys! Yes, I definitely do sculpt. It's my main drive career-wise, and I'm not stopping anytime soon. I post stuff in the sculpture section all the time, but not many seem to respond...just look and leave. :[ Oh well...I'll keep postin'. :teeth:

Woke up this morning to a Plethora of frosty goodness....I froze off my butt, but had to photograph Jack's handywork before it melted away (went out...came back in to thaw...went back out...etc.)

Here's few (for now...I'll post more later) from the close to 130 photos I took.....BRRRRR...

Seems I've missed a lot of wonderful photos. :)
The last frozen twigs are amazing!
I've always wondered how do you succeed to take so detailed images?
Do you use any special lenses or its just professional skills? :)
My friends on our Forums recommended me to buy a new digital camera
Sony P73 to take photos of my paintings, but i can't handle with
this as good as you do it, especially oils always look muddy with a lot of
reflections.

Thanks guys...I've been away from photography for a bit due to my sculpting, but I'll be back soon with more. ;)

Deco- Steady hands, and taking lots of photos. Lighting is VERY important. If you're taking photos inside...make sure you light your subjects well. If I use the "clock analogy" I would say at least have one light at 10 o'clock and one at 2. This is usually pretty good. Also...if you use normal bulbs...you end up with yellowy photos. It's best to use natural light if possible, or find the brightest/whitest bulbs you can. It's really about experimentation. Outside photos always come out better than inside ones...or at least require less work.:dur:
