Hey everyone.
Some of you, at the workshop, got to see some of my portfolio containing work from this particular project. My friend wrote a story a while back and wanted to animate it in 3D. This was his senior thesis and I was fortunate enough to work with him in doing the concept work, textures, and matte paintings. It was a great project to work on and I learned an unbelieveable amount of information regarding the 3d field. Look out for this piece at SIGGRAPH next year (hopefully) and please feel free to comment.

This is a concept sketch of the Old man wearing his suit and tie, holding his mysterious briefcase. The original concept for the old man was devised by an earlier concept artist on the project.

Some fish concepts for the tank fish in the house.

An earlier house concept, originally there was going to be a lot of junk on his front lawn, but that idea was cut.

The more final concept for the house. Another artist came up with the idea for the house on the hill. These concepts just push that with the inclusion of the path and important scenery for the later mattes.

This is the interior of the old man's house.

A close up of the bookshelf, an important part to the room.

The fish suit; this was definitely a lot of fun to design, some elements were cut in the final animation.

The nailbox logo I had to design for the Old man's workbench periphenalia.

2 color comps for the opening shot matte painting. This was something I wanted to do for all the mattes but we were restricted on time.

The jump shot matte, also integrated into the silhouette matte painting.

The 360 degree matte painting: a challenge to paint but we FINALLY got it.

I'm still working on the website for the project, you can check that out at:

Hmm, anything else? Just some notes on the colored works, no ref was used in any of the paintings aside from the 360 which had a little photo incorportaion. There is a lot more work but I just grabbed some at random to show you all what I did on the project. I don't have any of the textures up because I only have the flats and none on the models. Watch the animation for those! Again, it was an honor to work on this project and we are currently in production for 2 more animations. I will post work on those once they are finished as well. As always, comments and crits are welcomed. Enjoy.

The fish costume was great...
Was sad to see him go like that...but he was happy none the less

Half, if not more, of the sketches were incoherent due to their brightness.

Sorry, I have an average scanner and a light touch to drawing so its a bad combo I guess.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I will definitely try to post more of my work as I complete it.

Was awesome seeing some of these in the flesh at the workshop Ram. The short turned out really nice. Lots of mood and feeling, you all should be proud.

Now get back to work and give us more! :clapping2
