looks fine to me.
you might want to add some more lighting effects(they include shades) to the girl and the axe itself looks a bit like it's been put un the stick the wrong way.

i like this alot, the only crit i can give is the castle wall in the background takes away from the focus of the figure, possibley take the contrast down 50% so it blends more with the background...

I only have one crit, and thats the lighting should be blurred a little so you cant see the swirls you made on the armour, other than that it still is freaking awsome.

i like the angle at the bottom, gives the picture much more "oomf!"
nice painting style, though the girl's face bothers me a bit, might be just me

Nice study of that shot from the Excalibur movie. Were you just going for a general mood? or practice on the whole thing?
good bit of practice either way.
best wishes

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to go back over that pic and work on your suggestions. My ref was from an Excalibur screengrab , mostly because my composition and focus on scenes is very weak and I need to get back to basics.
I'm interested in Celtic Mythology so I am warming up with stuff like this pic and the new 2 this post in the hopes of working toward being able to do something a lot more dynamic when i get some more solid fundamentals in my painting.

the castle looks a bit flat, maybe deeper shadows?
i just love the atmosphere you created in the 2nd painting. :D

made some changes.
I'm pleased the sheep pic proved most popular as it was the most experimental out of the pics , my first try with painter. I couldnt find any nice smooth gradual brushes so i ended up just diving in with the oil and gouche brushes and muddling through.

Try studying some Frazetta. HE will help a lot with your character poses as well as lighting.
