Hi.

With this piece, I wanted to do something I hadn't tried, a new technique.

So I remembered the "Santa Claws" image that was posted here(forgot the posters name...:o), and wanted to adopt some of that loose, paint stroke feeling.

I did this by painting this "at a distance", and only zooming back in to correct details afterwords.
Because of that, it also looks the best at a distance, or at a smaller size.

I think in total this is about ten hours worth of work.

Here is the finished piece (30% of original size):

Here are detail shots, where you can see the strokes:

I was using Photoshop 7.0 for this whole thing('cause that's what I've got, haven't got Painter), and I used the "Oil Medium Wet Flow" brush for the cat, and the standard airbrush for the background(changing the brush size of both as needed).

Here is a screenshot of how my work area looked while I was making this; reference on the left.

Hope you like it. :)

wow .... i didnt know you could even do such stuff in photoshop....
:P
honestly very nice work.. i actually like looking at the close up shots it shows you have an eye for the entire picture, rather than focusing too much on the small details (though even those are great in this pic)
good use of colour in your blending. what more can i say i would love to see more stuff from you!
(did you use a reference for this?)

Thank you! :)

This is only my fifth finished piece on the Wacom(my Avatar is a detail from one of them), and before that I only drew with pencils on paper, so I'm experimenting with digital painting now. I think I have progressed quite a bit in just a few weeks actually. Much thanks to this site. :)

You can see the reference I used in the photoshop work area pic; I had it there on the left the whole time, zooming in and out while I was doing the same with the drawing. :)

Wow! I can't tell any difference between the refrence and the painting that you rendered.

Thanks for the nice comments. :)

If you look at the reference, my version of it came out a bit less 'butch' and a bit more 'feminine' and smaller than the reference cat/lynx.

Here's the reference(which was also about 50% bigger than this):

I don't think that you guys give Photoshop it's credit for painting! I've seen MARVELOUS work that has come from Photoshop.
When painter does most of the work for the artist simulating realworld textures/paints etc. Photoshop is more like a giant airbrush!

Thanks again. :emb: :o

I know my "portfolio" isn't much to brag about, but I'm working on it. I kinda had a drawing hiatus for a couple of years, but the Intuos gave me the will to start drawing again for some reason.

So I'll continue posting for every new image I make.
The one I'm working on now will probably take me a week or so though...
