I would like to start posting my sketches that I do from life to hopefully get some critiques on them. Here is my most recent one.

I am working hard to sketch figures from life. Our local art school has sessions with nude or clothed models which provides a good opportunity. I feel this practice will help me become a better artist. Please critique so that I may improve even more. Thank you.

Well I like really these! Keep working! :)
The line is soft and shows well anatomical knowledge.
May be you should lay out some details more precisely.

Thanks for responding. I am glad you wrote about something that I have a problem with — details. I only included 3 of the best, out of probably 100 sketches. The other 97 I was embarassed to put on. Many of those I had tried to add details and ruined it. Are there any tips for going to this step?

the last one is best, but the first would be better if it was not so small. Try a large format if you don't already. Great Figures. :chug:

There isn't "Handbook" how to make drawings.
Every do that like he feels and it makes him fun. :)

Maybe you should make more drawings about details only.
If you practise drawing more details and your efforts are in this
way I'm sure the things will go in their places. :)
When you do sketches in life you want to catch the caracter
and emotions but they change all the time. They grip your
sight and the details are lost on you.
You coudn't reconstruct from the memory because you didn't
catch them.
Of course this is only my opinion and I wouldn't like impose it. :)

That is interesting how you put that. I would like to get to that point where I can capture the character and emotion of the subject. I plan on doing some detail drawings and some larger formats.
Thank you.

nice work, i like the use of white for highlights in these sketches. one crit for your last one, his left leg is really bothering me, i looked at it for a while trying to figure out which way its going, but it really looks like its just going straight out backwards, i think part of the problem may be the bright highlight on his inner thigh, not really sure. but other than that your sketches are looking really good
