It has taken me way too long to start to post on this site. I have been putting some work on GFX but wanted to join in on all of the fun you guys were having here. I spend most of my day working on designs and paintings for Disney that I am not able to show because of the nondisclosure agreements. I have started to make time for my own paintings that can be shown, but unfortunately it is never as much time as I would like. Maybe one day they will build all of the concepts that I work on, and I will be able to show my real work. Until then, here is some of the things that I have been playing with and hope to show more soon. I appreciate all of your comments.

Thanks man. I started working with Disney in '96 but left for about a year to work with Universal Studios and BRC Imagination Arts in '98. Completely different place these days.

Most of the projects that have been built are in Florida. (Mission Space, DisneyQuest, and several Innoventions attractions)
I am currently working on a Blue Sky team, that is focusing on all of the Tomorrowlands around the world.

I just found this forum today ... and I am completely speechless after looking at the work presented by Scot in this thread.
Thanks for sharing this with us Scott.
Since I'm new here ... and I haven't really had time to browse yet, would you mind telling me what program(s) you are using to render your work?

Great work! I like the portrait the best. Nice, loose brush strokes. That intense blue gives a nice optical effect(maybe over exposing a negative?).

Excellent stuff man! I have a question: how do you manage to paint in those straight lines? This might be a real rookie question, but I just can't find a tool in painter or photoshop that does that. I'm quite a perspective freak, and it really bugs me I can't get the same tight perfpective linework digitally as I can traditionally.
Thanks,
-Edwin

Scot,
This stuff is fantastic. Could you tell us a little bit more about working for places like Disney Imagineering, Universal Creative and BRC? What kind of skills do places like that look for? (besides generally excellent painting and drawing skills) What should a decent portfolio have in it?
Quite frankly, you have my dream job and I am jealous as hell.
Thanks for posting.

Edwin,
Take advantage of the SHIFT button while you are sketching. Any vertical or horizontal line can be made straight and perpendicular by holding down tha SHIFT key while drawing it(TIP: let go of the SHIFT key in between lines ) . Also, when drawing lines in perspective, draw a point where you want the line to start, then hold down shift and select the second point. The line will go from one to the next. (TIP: turn off any transparency feature in the brush dynamics and make sure that shape dynamics does NOT go all the way to 0% on size. The pressure of the dot determins the line width ) It will take some time to make this feature work the way you expect it to.
good luck.

those are totally bitchin straight lines.
Your work has a very simple and complex thing going at the same time. I personally like art a lot more depressing color wise but your rendering style make anything look "neon" and cool. props.

disney should be licking your boots, man...
oh, my goddess, your art is reminiscent of bakshi...(hope i spelled right)
if dis. got you already, maybe you should consider talking to major sci-fi distributors...you're obviously ambitious enough...this aspect of your work doesn't deserve to go neglegted...i'd give my right arm to draw like you do(ha,ha)...i'd be insulted not to see more of your work here and in the public eye (sooner than later is good)

Wow. Aside from pretty much much every facet of your art being superb I have been consistantly flabberghasted by your absolutely brilliant, dare I say near supernatural, use of color. Every piece seems to bend to your will. If you wanted it to be smooth and warm it is and if you want it to be tight, dark yet bold you pull that off flawlessly as well. I especially like the mechanical aspects of some of the works because as I mentioned in another post I sketch mostly vehicle concepts. Would it be too much to ask for you to post one or two pieces that you have that contained vehicles of some kind? If you have any others of course. I know you're busy so don't stress obviously. I don't have the knowledge or technical skills to make any effective crits so I'll save this from be a useless post by saying PLEASE keep posting. Your work is an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others.

Thanks for all of the kind words. I really appreciatte it.
This painting was done in honor of John Hench who was a Famous Disney Legend and just recently passed away. It was inspired by his optomistic views of the future and his original concept drawings for Space Mountain. It was printed 5' wide and is now hanging at Walt Disney Imagineering.

Thanks! Feel free to check out the site. It is not as up to date as I wish it were but I am trying to learn Dreamweaver in my "spare time". The current site was created in ImageReady and hacked together at best, but there will be a more professional site coming soon, so check back later. If anyone has a better program to create websites that they recomend that doesn't require a ton of programing, please let me know. Thanks

I'd recomend Microsofts Frontpage, It's like dreamwiever, but to me atleast, it was easier to get somewere in the program.
Anyways sweet pictures :)
